OMG NO. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. HE IS SO DUMB. WHY ARE WE LETTING PEOPLE RUN THE UNIVERSITY THAT CAN'T DO THINGS LIKE MAKE INTERNET MESSAGE BOARDS HAPPY. I HATE HIM. I WISH HE WOULD JUST GO. HE'S NOT MY REAL DAD. CLEARLY HE DIDN'T OFFER ENOUGH HANDYS UNDER THE TABLE TO SHAKA. IF HE REALLY WANTS TO SHOW COMMITMENT TO THE UNIVERSITY HE'D HAVE OUR NEW COACH ENTER THE PRESS CONFERENCE IN A ROCKET PACK.

Seriously though, he got put in a tough place to start out. We advocate a 5 year judgment for coaches. Let's give the new President more than 5 days before we judge him.

On a slightly related topic, is anyone else a bit disturbed that it appears MU hustled through the announcement of its new president to accommodate a coaching candidate?

Have to admit, I raised my eyebrows a bit.

Now of course, I would never confuse MU with Harvard or Stanford, but c'mon. Education is what MU is supposed to be about. I hope Lovell was the guy they really wanted all along, but it feels like raced him through his unveiling and immediately stuck him on a place to Richmond to kiss Smart's as*.

Not the end of the world, just a bit off in my eyes.

Posted this in the superbar. Appropriate to post it here for the naysayers...

Had a chance to meet him today. I will try to alleviate any concerns people had about him not being a people person. I was walking around campus saw him and said welcome to MU and he asked me if I would walk for him for a bit. Awesome guy. Super charismatic, super genuine and interacted with me more in 5 minutes then Pilarz did in his whole tenure. Asked me what I liked about MU, what I didnt like etc. I was ready to rip out a check for him if I had money. From a students perspective an A+ hire based on first impression. Pilarz didnt impress me much when I first heard him during freshman orientation.

Obviously he was and they pushed up the announcement. And I think pushing up the announcement and getting a permanent president on board is going to be important for all potential coaching candidates, not just Shaka.

Not something Dr. Lovell can be judged by.  Completely unfair to him.

Can someone explain why, if Lovell was always the guy, MU was content to wait until the end of April? Why the delay?

And by the way, Lovell seems like a talented guy. Solid hire. The only good thing that came out of this week.

Because that's when the next meeting was and they planned to do the formal voting approval then.

Out of respect for Lovell and his current employer UWM.  It was a timed announced decision to allow for the end of the school year and graduation.

Awesome awesome hire. Heard his interview on 620 WMTJ. Charlie Sykes asked some difficult questions and he was very polished, well spoken, good sense of humor.  Did not falter when pressured with difficult questions. This is a homerun hire.

Hey Boneheads!!!

Good Start???  If you had read the article about him on jsonline, you'd realize his tenure doesn't start until August 1st.  There are these things called .... orientation and job training.  He just doesn't walk in the office and know who his administration is going to be, what needs to be done, etc.  The next several weeks will be dedicated to meetings where he will get a pulse of what's going on at MU and meet all of the big players involved with the university.

Did you ask him what exactly went down on his trip to Virginia?  Not sure if that should be in teal or not.

First impression would be the better term.  And still unfair to him.
