Hope you are wrong about Martin
Your brother tell you?
Howland out or just someone you don't think the BoD will support?
I really don't like this whole Martin hysteria all of a sudden. He's been on the hot-seat all season for a reason.

I had not looked at the other threads. I was relieve to find out you were not talking about Frank Martin.

Wish list:
1. Shaka
2. Howland
3. Dixon
4. Pastner
5. Marshall
*no other realistic candidates besides death after that.
I'll pass on Martin. Not sure why he became 2nd choice all of a sudden.
I think Shaka (if actually offered) turns it down
Howland then accepts. Thats been the Howland delay, the wait for Shaka.

Martin was just about to get the heave ho at Tenn. No way.
I really hope youre right Goose.
My prediction: an assistant that no one has mentioned.
My money is Shaka and if Martin I would say it is a not an impact hire, at least on the surface.
The problem with Howland is while we may want him and the general fan base may want him and even the AD may want him...if 1 or 2 key people who sign the checks don't want, he's not coming. Sure we can pay 3 million but we need approval and I doubt there's a vote. I don't have any inside info but obviously Howland comes with baggage. I think we can all agree Shaka is clean and gets signed off on by all, Ben, who knows?

Uggh. This saddens me.
If Shaka is deliberate as they say he is, one phone call from Lowell (even with Jeter's backing) and a good night's sleep is not going to change his mind.
I will be very, very disappointed if we don't end up with Howland.
Can our moderator put up a poll to assess the predominant guess at this

I am going to try this board one more time..so here it goes. This is what I know>
1. SS is #1 on the list.
2. An offer has been made to SS.
3. SS is ok with the terms of the agreement, but that does not mean that he has said yes to the agreement.. this may be where the confusion has come from. It is one thing to say I am ok with the terms of the agreement and another to say I am signing it. For example I have looked at properties to invest in and I have said I am ok with the terms, but in the end thought that I had a better place to invest. I asked if this was just a ploy to leverage more from VCU and the answer was they really think it is not.
4. It is not an easy decision for SS and he has lots of factors to consider. His pay would almost double at MU and other positives..back to Wisconsin, but he is really happy at VCU.
5. Biggest concern is not having a President and AD, does not know who he will be accountable to.
6. MU is really close to naming new President so there is work on to see if there is a way to get targeted new President to talk with SS to get some comfort. New targeted president is not a SOJ so if this discussion occurs then the there is no going back on who the new president will be. No guarantee this will occur.
7. Ben H. is #2 on list, discussion have occurred and may rekindle if SS does not move forward soon.
8. Gm #3...but no discussions at this time.
9. IC is not a candidate at this time.
10. IF SS does not agree today, Wednesday at latest, look for Ben H. to move to #1.
This is what I think. No one knows if SS is coming, maybe even himself. Until I see something solid from VCU or MU it is not done.
I do have great faith in Fr. W, but especially Bill C. He will do a great job. I suggest we all just relax.
In Bill I Trust!!!
The only positive with Martin is my seats will improve during reseating. Absolutely need a coach who has won at a high level. I'm not buying Shaka. Not one national writer or real journalist says shaka. Nothing points to Shaka other than rumors that have been wrong and our desire for it to be correct. I remember when Bobby Frasor went to NC and bought tar heel gear. Everyone had excuses for it and believed unreasonably and without basis that despite what we saw he would pick MU. I don't see anything reasonably pointing to Shaka. Hope I'm wrong.
Hope BD updates us. Think that was yesterday's news.

The slowdown thing is so overblown. Baggage? Maybe a little, but if World Domination plan A went haywire, swallow your pride and get it done with Ben. I can't fathom that the dude is trying to strong arm us, at least not to the extreme. He's a pro's pro.
At the risk of sounding politically incorrect, I am of the belief that Martin is being "approached" because he is black. It's almost a requirement in these situations to give attention to a minority candidate. Shaka is in an other world there, so his race is completely irrelevant. Martin is not anywhere close to what we need right now, even if the big three ain't coming.

I agree with your disagreement. He has a great relationship with his former players... the types of players that get recruits excited. Slowdown ball is basically everyone buying into Bill Walton's rants (which is own TV partner doesn't even do anymore). Plus, he said he'd run a little bit more in his next gig. I'd love to see good, solid defense. I'd also love to see 3 final fours.

54 pages isnt long on the VCU board. There's several threads that are 250+ pages, including one about our rival. The boast was the "Shaka to Minnesota" thread, on Gopher Hole. We're referring to the Craptastical Mystery Thread (not it's original name). It's locked now, but is essentially our SMU freak out from last year. We generally don't use sticky threads, or recurring threads for a single topic (i.e. recruiting, realignment), so usually ours are kept to one lifetime and they don't go into the hundreds.
