Goose and I have different sources but compare notes and everything has gone dark after the silliness of Monday. Here is what we know:
Marquette moved up the President Announcement for a reason - the coaching search.
At least one (if not both) of our primary targets requested a meeting (phonecon) with the incoming President.
We do not know how that meeting turned out.
Marquette has two primary candidates who are both Impact Hires.
Marquette is making a decision if one of the principals cannot.
Tomorrow will let us know what decision that principal has made.
At the end of the day nobody should really be disappointed as the program stewardship - Coach, Bill Cords, Dr Lovell - will be in very capable hands.
The future is bright and Marquette is Aiming High!
WTF? That's not a poem.
Thanks for the update though. We junkies appreciate it.

So based on what you know we should know who our coach is by tomorrow?
I would say that means they have their man. Will announce at 2. Would expect some press to get a hold of info earlier. Should be interesting night

"Principles" is shorthand for "Principle candidates?" So this means one of them has a deadline we set to indicate if he'd like to move forward, and if they don't make a call we move forward with the other candidate?
Do I have that right? Is my sleep deprivation showing?

From Scott Kuykendall
----------------------------------
All Media,
Marquette Interim Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Cords will be available at 2 p.m. CT on Thursday afternoon to provide an update on the search for a new head men's basketball coach.
This is NOT a press conference to announce a new head coach.I'm starting to think keefe is only slightly more reliable than Ganzer.
Even if you can't give us a name....at least tell us they'll be introducing a new coach.
I refuse to believe they're dumb enough to hold a presser to "update" the media and reveal who has turned them down.

Jason King just mentioned that he wouldn't be surprised if Cuonzo Martins name surfaces as one of our targets. Anyone have any insight on this?
My thoughts all along were Smart or Howland but this is the first I have heard of this.
I still feel confident that Marquette/we get the hire right. And all will be heading in the right direction.
Thanks for all of the info goose and keefe. It has been a crazy week! We sure do have some fanatics with lots of theories around here..Good things to come. Fingers crossed.
Heard Martin hour ago as option. I have mo idea what is gong on at this point.
Sorry guys.
This is the biggest circle jerk I have ever seen. Just IP ban everyone until the coach is announced.
It seems MUbb has been trolling throughout the process. Maybe this is some weird swerve and they will announce by tomorrow.

The new coach will be announced at 2 pm presser or they will cancel it. It won't be a press conference for update. It's a placeholder.
Cuonzo can't recruit. Bruce Weber's name came up as well. Next topic please. None of these will be MU's next coach due to their inability to recruit top 100 players.

If that e-mail is real, why would Kuykendall lie?
The timing allows for Marquette to announce the head coach in the morning while he is informing his players and assistant coaches that he is leaving. Shortly after that he will catch a flight to Milwaukee that will land in time for a press conference everyone is prepared for.

Can you tell us who you are considering?
No
Can you tell us anything else?
No

Or if he doesn't have a current team (Howland), he could already be in Milwaukee. MU could then announce him in the morning and introduce him at 2pm and state that the negotiations went faster than anticipated.
We have two choices, either MU is smart and doing this correctly or they are grossly incompetent.
MU admin's may have had their issues but I refuse to believe they are as stupid as this looks on the surface. The presser will change in topic or it will be canceled.
Even if they don't make it a coach announcement, I'm betting it will be a statement that we've reached an agreement in principal with an unnamed individual. Think about it, classic negotiation. They have target A who is hesitating, you make it obvious that you are moving on to B. You either sign B or A comes back and takes the offer. It's about leveraging A. As the offerer though you have to be happy with B though if the bluff is called.

Cords will start to announce there is no coach at this time and then mid-sentence Shaka's entrance music will hit and Cords will look around, confused and then look shocked as he seems our man emerge. Shaka will run to the podium. The entire thing is being set up by Vince McMahon.

I think you're on to something here. We all have a good feeling that Howland (AKA Candidate B) wants the job. MU's first choice is Shaka (AKA Candidate A). MU cannot figure out if Shaka is jerking them around to get a raise/facilities/etc out of VCU, and want this all to be over. So, they are going to publicly state that they are ready to sign a candidate (Howland), in an attempt to get Shaka to come to a conclusion. If Shaka comes to the table, he'll be the coach as of Friday AM. If not, Howland will be.
Or MU is totally clueless, but I just can't see this crew being that dumb.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. A's deadline past without response, so announce the presser (subtext to go with B) and let A sleep on it overnight. I really hope A rethinks his decision, but am happy with either.

I think that Cords should have both Shaka and Howland right there, sitting in the audience. Then he should put two hats on the podium -- one with a picture of Shaka; one with a picture of Ben. Then say, we've got a contract signed by both of these fine coaches, but we're only going to sign one. Then do a double or triple fake when deciding which hat to put on.
