Likely my lack of sleep talking but...
This past season we've seen a big boost to focus on social media marketing from MU.... who could get the most likes between us and UW, battle of the beaks with Creighton, etc etc.
If we locked down Shaka in principle over the weekend, and he asked for 3 days to get things in order (speak with players, coaches, etc) before a Wednesday announcement, it would make sense that MU would want to draw attention to the process.
In this case, the Shaka-to-MU clusterf#ck is pretty solid to draw attention to the program... an "oops" before a monstrous slam dunk.
Danielle Josetti's tweet makes me think this has to be the case. Why would you be making smug remarks hinting we've got a big announcement when the fan base is expecting Shaka otherwise?

Because that would make too much sense.
The smugness of it all is what gets me. The way they tweeted the basketball banquet, Josetti's tweet. It all is rather strange.
Conclusion: Shaka & Kearney joint press conference tomorrow!

right. unless they are 100% incompetent, they have to have a trick up their sleeves.
If they legit don't have a quality hire lined up, someone should be fired for how this was bungled.
... other than Brent
I like it. Now go take a nap.

Clearly someone needs to watch Arrested Development. That's Jason Bateman.

Not to shoot down the theory, because I think it's a very interesting and plausible one, but if much of this "clusterf*ck" was intentional on twitter, what do you make of the MUTV account getting in a spat with @MUTVKid? It doesn't seem like a humorless spat with a parody account is part of a larger plan.

MUTV wouldn't be in the know enough to be involved with something like this.

I dont think that was intentional, nor were the leaks but the trolling by the official MU twitter accounts is what is suspicious. Unless theyre that big of douche bags that like trolling thier own fans.
I have met Danielle and she would not do that. I'm sure she was just having fun with some guy who was trying to continue spreading a rumor about Marquette being under NCAA Investigation when there was no substance there.
Followup question then... Do we think that Josetti is also running the @MarquetteMBB account? (Neither have tweeted since yesterday)
EDIT: Probably too specific of a question... What I mean is, is the department small enough to keep all of this under wraps while still having a social media strategy?

don't know the answer to that, but if they are it'd make them hiring Smart 3x more impressive.
I think the @MarquetteBB twitter is run by a student. That account almost always tweeted out some joke about Dylan Flood before a game.

More likely, Marquette muzzled everyone - which they should.

Absolutely. Seems like there were some loose lips Monday, but that has been completely reined in. I'm still hoping...but not necessarily expecting...that what those loose lips were saying was correct.

For the first one, doubtful - if it's internal, that account would be handled by Communications, or Marketing. DJ is in Compliance.
For the second, it isn't small enough for the entire athletics department to know what is going on in the coaching search and be confident that there would be no leaks. It is small enough that those who need to know would keep things under wraps, i.e. those listed under Administration and Compliance, and maybe not even all of them.

@MarquetteMBB is run by the university, just as the rest of the "official" accounts are. @teecycletim is the director of social media over seeing that.

Wrong. It's most likely Kuykendall. No one else makes sense.

There's a few people involved, all within athletics.
