I going to assume the Milwaukee press is not going to step in it again like they did yesterday when they breathlessly announced Shaka was the new coach. So I will assume this comes from a good source and this will indeed happen as described below.
Recall the original schedule said the announcement would happen at the end of April (and approved by the BOT before the end of the school year). The semi-finalists were interviewed on March 10, 2014, and the process started last October. So, they already knew who was going to be the President. In other words, no compromise in who they picked (at least I hope) just rushing the formal announcement.
http://www.marquette.edu/leadership/presidential-search.php
Why? What changed in the last few days to rush the timetable? We know.
This announcement is not to satisfy Brian Wardle. He'll take the job no matter who is President. Not to satisfy a hot shot assistant (Mike Hopkins) or even an establish head coach like Bruce Weber. They don't rise to this level and could be got without this announcement.
It is to satisfy a "big name coach." Which one? Howland? Reports say he already said he wants the job even though we have an interim President. He knew that when he threw his hat in the ring. Gregg Marshall? Reports say MU is cool on him.
So I will conclude it is a "major name." Such a big name that the new President has already interviewed this big name coach and MU will make now make the name of the new President public to satisfy a concern this big name coach. Namely who is his boss. Then the big name coach and his new boss will collaborate on picking his immediate boss, the AD.
So, who is this big name coach that shall not be named? Hmmmm
Thoughts?

MILWAUKEE-Sources are telling CBS 58 News that the announcement of a new president at Marquette University could be made in the next day or two.
Among the finalists is Joseph Kearney, the current Dean of the Marquette Law School.
Kearney has been a member of the Marquette Faculty since 1997.
Before Marquette, Kearney practiced at a private law firm in Chicago.
He also served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Kearney is an honors graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School.
You make some solid points. Certainly seems like this is an attempt to appease a "name" coach. I'll go out on a limb and say SS is still in play.

:o
His soul is split more than Buzz and Crean combined.
If it's true the timetable for president was mid-April, obviously this has something to do with the coaching vacancy. Two ways to see it:
1) We're close on a name-brand HC who isn't signing until he knows who his boss's boss is
2) The HC search isn't going well because of the vacancy at president, so the process was accelerated.
It also would indicate the departure of the last HC - I forget his name - came as a complete surprise to the powers that be. Otherwise tomorrow's announcement would have come even sooner.
I'm curious - would a "big-name" coach want assurances from the new AD, in addition to the new president?
There were supposedly 4 names on MU's list for next head coach. As of now, those 4 coaches have not taken new jobs nor have they formally turned MU down. Hopefully we will sign one of these 4 coaches soon.

No, the surprise was an interim President would pose such an obstacle.
The timetable was set months ago.Bball coaches don't know how to interview their boss. They just want a boss that says "I want you" and that the bball coach is "there guy" so the President cannot "distance himself" from "his guy" with looking really bad.
That is why the announcement. Then the bball coach is the new president's guy and
not a legacy he inherited.
I just thought of the ultimate troll. Its the announcement for the new president, everybody puts their guard down and his first announcement is that of the new Marquette bball coach. Whoever it may be.

When the dust finally settles, whether that be tomorrow, next week or next month, I do hope our scoopers are able to spill the beans on the details of this search (not the sources). I feel like there are some tidbits out there...
One problem with it being Shaka: if your theory is correct, the coach is in on all of this and is waiting in the wings for the pres and then AD. If so, would Shaka, knowing he is leaving VCU, let his to assistant take a job at Rice when he would be the top candidate to replace Shaka at VCU. VCU>Rice

Unless VCU felt that they didn't want to go with him.

Unless, like Marquette told Chew to piss off, they told him to piss off.
Howland to VCU?
Interesting that MU did not rush the announcement to keep Brent here.
Hmmmmm

Or he just didn't want to wait. Didn't butlers top assistant leave a few days before Stevens left ?
Or maybe VCU doesn't care about lying on resumes and will go after Masiello.

Any chance we could be getting two hires out of VCU? AD Ed McLaughlin too?
http://www.vcuathletics.com/information/directory/bios/McLaughlin_Ed
or perhaps an AD affiliated with one of SS's prior stops...

OK, now that is outside the box thinking....well done. I sincerely doubt it, but out of the box for sure.

So when the VCU AD said "SS is
our men's basketball coach," he meant MU's.... you just have to read between the lines, and squint, and turn your head slightly sideways.

THAT. WOULD. BE. AWESOME.
I may be wrong but I wouldn't expect a coaching announcement until Thursday or Friday right around the time games start up. That way the hiring gets as much national attention as possible just like the last guy leaving for VT.

That's odd. The tweet is time stamped 11:44pm (just over an hour ago) and says starting to hear rumors of Shaka to MU.
Relax and respect the process, folks.

Holy crap you are annoying.
Very simple set of processes. New President Done Deal.
Cords staying for another year to give Doc this year and next with the clippers, at which point he retires to be the new AD.
SS is aware of the transition plan, but wanted to know the president first.
....probably shouldn't have eaten the random blue pill I found on the floor.

The President is more important now then the A.D whoever that may be...I would assume.
You could hire a Head Coach before the A.D. I would think.
The Head Coach here at MU would be paid more anyways I would think...due to the fact he would command more one would think.
