Title: Is tomorrow D-day?
Post by: Groin_pull on March 25, 2014, 06:42:53 PM
For some reason, hints have been dropped that Wednesday is the big day.

Are we expecting to finally get some news...or even (gulp) a new coach?

I think that at the very least we'll know if Shaka is interested or not. Other than that who knows.

Just heard CBS 58 say there's a big announcement coming tomorrow at MU. They mentioned Pilarz so I'm assuming a new president will be named.

IMO it is D Day for SS for becoming coach. New President and SS would be nice announcement.

My guess?

New President is announced 5PM Wednesday.  Give the new guy a whole day to bask in the attention.  Maybe even announce a new AD as well.  Show off the new regime.

My dream scenario?

My dream scenario has Shaka or Howland announced as mens BB coach 5PM Thursday.  Give ESPN and everybody else something to talk about just before Bucky kicks off their S16 game against Baylor.  Even if Bucky wins they have to share the spotlight with MU.  All recruits decide that they really want to stay.

I keep getting toyed with.  You're still on the SS will become MU's coach bandwagon?  Yesterday it seemed only a matter of time.  Today it seemed no chance.  But then I've been getting texts.  I know he has at least discussed a contract with Marquette.  You would think if there is 0 chance he, his wife, or somebody within VCU's athletic department would have mentioned something about him staying by now.  I don't know what to think.

I still think SS becomes our next coach. Obviously the delay worries anyone not intimately involved, which I am not. Probably very few people know if he is signed or not.

Hasn't a Wednesday announcement been consistent the entire time though?  Much of the specualtion has suggested Shaka will be hired with an announcement coming Wednesday?

If the new President is announced tomorrow, there is no way we will hear anything else about ADs or coaches that might steal the thunder.  Minimally we wait until Thursday.  What a week

This is the part I find at least a little odd. May be it isn't. Maybe they are working on an extension that isn't final. Maybe he/they really don't need to say anything. I don't know. It just seems that Shaka has something cooking. May not be with MU, but something.

No, I can say without exposing any insiders that I have not been involved in any contract talks with any potential coaches. Worried? Sure, I want it over like everyone else. Blown two days of work, been bashed on here and been texted to death. I hope, and believe, we get our guy.

If not, lot of great guys wanting the job.

It also appears pretty clear to me that after yesterday's debacle, MU brought the smack down on anyone at MU talking, texting, tweeting, or thinking anything about this to anyone. My guess is there is a list of about 2 people authorized to say anything to anyone about the search. Threaten people with their jobs, and most will shut up. Assuming same message was extended to those outside/indirectly involved if they have any stake in dealing with MU.

If you want to hold out hope for Shaka Smart (I'm a Howland guy, myself), take today's radio silence as a good sign.

New coach is a big, expensive decision...you want to make/announce that hire, and then name the President two days later? Who's in charge here? Not about being prima donna, as much as it is about involving the right people in the right thing...if there is even any connection between the two.

Agree.

Try this as an example. Tomorrow you are are going to be in charge of a local soda fountain. Your predecessor the day before fires the entire staff and replaces them with Curly, Larry and Shep. Think you would want to be in the loop on that clever move and so would a new President, no matter how humble.

I definitely believe these things take time.  If I had to guess, I would say Kearney announced tomorrow as president and, hopefully, Shaka announced by end of week.  This being said, I would be happy with Howland, as well, but would not prefer Wardle.  Bottom line, MU is in a good situation and we all need to be patient.  (Easier said than done, I know.)

Buzz had lots of issues here.  While I respected him as a coach and recruiter, he did have MANY off court issues - the assault, having an assistant lie to an NCAA investigator, and a number of more...personal...proclivities that call into question his whole "commitment to God and family" schtick.

I am a very big believer that the admin finally said "enough is enough" and let the ticking time bomb walk.

Yes I believe so.  He was just on Sports Radio here in SoCal.  The guests mentioned MU a few times leading up to the interview, but Howland keep it generic just saying he wants the right fit for him and the university (generic not MU).  He seemed much more interested in the Florida UCLA match up.

OT: But Duane Wilson just deleted his twitter it appears. He's practically the only player who posts things of relevance. Last night he posted something similar to "Praying these rumors about Shaka are real". Strange, because he tweets quite regularly and went dead quiet right after that tweet for over 25 hours.

Confirmed his twitter is nowhere to be found. He retweeted me like 2 days ago and now nowhere to be found on my profile.

I would post a thread about it but there's been enough of those over the last couple days  ;)

Assuming "first hand stories" (no pun intended) means the same thing to you as it does to me, I don't believe you. Unless, of course, you talk to a lot of masseuses.

"First Hand " stories sounds pretty close to the source

SS does not allow his players to use Twitter during the school year.  ; )

Either that or the University doesn't want their starting PG to have a tweet that would make Howland feel like crap.

After a while, it became understood that the therapist leave the room early so he had a little "alone time".  To those who doubt me, I heard it from the people who worked there.

They don't exist here that I am aware of.  There are, however, legit massage/facial places all over town, hence, it was NOT on the menu.

MU probably didn't care.  In my opinion, it goes to character and integrity.  I am sure there are things the transpired professionally that no one will ever find out about and those in charge had finally had enough.  That was my original point.

Shaka gets named Prez, AD, Admissions, and Coach -

Prez has to be named before anything else goes down on this....just no way we can name a coach w/o the new Prez having buy in.
