Title: Howland Article
Post by: BenCat12 on March 25, 2014, 05:24:12 PM
If this has been posted already, I apologize.

I was excited when Buzz left and thought anyone of Marshall, Smart and Howland would be great.
However, it is looking more and more like Shaka is not an option, the program doesn't seem interested in Marshall, and Howland may not be as good as we, myself included, thought.

Don't buy a lot of what this article is selling. Howland struggled with some members of the L.A. media and especially many of the boosters. Bill Walton? You mean the same guy who proclaimed Mike D'antoni a genius?

Howland was a victim of the same things that eventually gets every UCLA coach not named Wooden: Insane boosters and out of control expectations.

+1

i get that MU likely understands where they stand with howland, and is going through the correct process...but if they announced howland with shaka still hanging out there i'd be happy.

i see the likes of UNC, Duke, IU, Cuse, etc. having openings in the near future...there's always talk of other guys going to the nba...howland is ours for 10 years...gives us plenty of time to have a coach in waiting (internal or external like wardle).

i think howland is probably a better coach...shaka probably runs a better program.  i'd love either one, but don't like one more than the other enough to risk losing one for the other.

The Golden Age of Online Journalism.

Right up there with Okla State Football and Nevin Shapiro / U of Miami.

Seemed like a 6 month period when editors thought these huge takeout pieces would move needles.

I'm in the same spot I've been since Brett bounced....I'd be ecstatic with either Howland or Shaka.  Just get one of them

I'd take Howland in a heartbeat.

I still think Howland should be option 1, and Shaka option 2.  But either would be great.

Been my opinion all along.

If Smart has truly declared himself off the market though, I'd suggest MU better get moving. Wake Forest isn't gonna sit on their hands either.

I Agree! He can recruit. We need that. Howland will probably stick around longer (age 56), than Smart.

Still like Smart or Marshall.
