@PaintTouches 14m
Confirmed that Marquette's entire coaching staff, minus Jerry Wainwright, is out. Wainwright staying on board to help w/ transition. #mubb
So they are all gone. Sorry to see Chew out.
How many of them wind up in VT?
Wait ... it's this how is worked 6 years ago? JW to MU????
At least we can count on another memorable team picture....
Makes you think something was rotten in Denmark!!! Everybody out!!
Good news is there is plenty of room for Smart or Howland to bring in their own staff.
I expected Autry to follow Buzz, but was holding out hope for Chew. His specialty is Chicago - not sure he will have much luck luring kids to Blacksburg.
Happy to see Jerry sticking around. He is risking a potential job next year to stay on - no guarantee he will be retained by new coach. THAT is Character Revealed.
Should make for an interesting banquet on April 15

I miss a good Brisco zinger. RIP.
Jerry is too old to go chasing assistant jobs around the country. Maybe he catches on here with the new staff, or heads back to Chicago. He might be good as a TV color guy too.

Not really. Not if they want the in coming guy to have a chance to retain them.
Maybe Howland wants to be sure he's not the old timer on the coaching staff.
Seems odd to me. I can see if Buzz took them all with and the announcement was that all the assistants are leaving to follow Buzz (less Wainwight). But the wording is that they are OUT or were dismissed smacks of something else to me. Maybe it's just me.
Would the new coach decide who he wants to keep or eject? Is there a new coach? lol
Yes. A new coach determines who his assistants are. After all, they're often the ones most involved in the recruiting.
And apparently assistant (don't know which one) was clearing out office and taking recruiting binders. Was called out by student employee in office and Bill C. came over and reemed him out. Nice try, sure Buzz's bunch got whatever they wanted though. Should have been standing over their shoulder the whole time as SOP.
Chew will be able to recruit wherever the heck he goes. Trust me on that one.

Oliver Prunell to Marquette
Assistants were probably recruiting for their next jobs and Buzz using MU resources. Better to have them out.
Chew will be taking a hugh pay cut if he ends up at VT

I've always had a good feeling about Jerry and his character. He struck me as a no-nonsense, but pretty loyal, coach.

He is also 67 with a home in Chicago.
If the administration do really mess up all top notch alternatives (i.e. maintain the course they're on), Wainright would be a better alternative than Wardle due to his experience and character.
I could see Cords guaranteeing him a job for one year or even two based on this thought process.

An odd idea pops into my mind: Wainwright as head coach, with Wardle as assistant, waiting in the wings, learning the ropes, and knowing his time will come.
Not exactly "impact" but who knows? For me, yuck.
Even if Buzz were still here, I would have liked for Wainwright to move on.

Wainwright is 67 and I dont think he wants to be a Head Coach... He's great at player development, he even said it himself...
Wainwright, is committed to shepherding the Golden Eagles through the unexpected change. He has no plans to retire but also said he doesn't view himself as a candidate to replace Williams.
"I'm helping our school here make a transition," Wainwright said in a Sunday phone interview. "My part of that is to keep our players developing. Keep them positive and keep them informed and reassure them that the school will do everything it can to give them their best experience with the new coach."

We'll call that plan 100,000 I'd literally take the coach at UW Stephen's point or UW Whitewater over the coach that brought Depaul to being winless in the BE for a couple years.

Yep, was hinting a few times during the season that assistant turnover would have had to happen...now that they're departed I can elaborate a little on my thinking: Wainwright about ready for retirement, not seeing the fruits of Chew's recruiting prowess given his cost, and Autry was such a mini-me of the coach that he did nothing to challenge his thinking.
The real question here is Wardle or Wainwiright????

For what Marquette has to offer we can do much better on all fronts. This program needs to make a splash with Brett's replacement not be a training ground.

Looks like we have some Weekend At Bernies head coach action going on here.
I'm still of the opinion Buzz was pushed out... I'm thinking the assistant coaches may have been involved in whatever brought that on.

exactly.
Had had issues with assistants of Buzz lying to the administration in the past... Wonder if anything similar (thus the rumors of an investigation) might have contributed to this move.

That may have more to do with DePaul than anything.
This says a lot about Jerry. I think its great that he is giving the players some small measure of stability during this massive change. They can continue to workout and Jerry will be there if needed.

They still have their teammates as well. Always see them walking out of the AL or even playing basketball at the rec.
