We have become the laughing stock of the nation with this freaking circus.
I think that the leaks ruined this from happening.
Goose, PTM, IWB, and KEEFE have started to backtrack from what they said and this just became a debacle!!
I have been positive for months but this about does it.
Goose said IMPACT HIRE and sticking with it. Have little to no concern over this not ending well. Actually, very confident I will be deighted.

In Goose we trust, (and Keefe)
Kenosha Warrior
Keep an eye out for Stone tweeting with Badger fans and let the guys in charge at MU do the heavy lifting. Being negative over things taking time is flat out insane IMO.
I feel sick over all of this.

Laughing stock of the nation? You think that many people are paying attention to the MU coaching search?

KW saw someone make a snide remark on an ESPN message board and extrapolated it to the entire nation
Kenosha, you sound like the guy from the movie "Swingers" who meets the cute girl in the bar, gets her number, and calls her voicemail as soon as he gets home. He leaves a message and when she doesn't immediately return the call (she's not even home yet), he gets nervous and leaves her a string of increasingly paranoid voicemails that end up with him "breaking up" with her before they ever even had a chance to talk.
Let it play out.
Ummm, this kind of thing happens everywhere people (leaks). We may not like it, but it's reality.

Only those that read Deadspin and thought, "look at those idiots at Marquette, who would have believed Shaka Smart would go coach a school in Michigan, oh wait Marquette is in Milwaukee, who knew."
The only people who blew it were idiot outlets on television reporting the deal as done and as fact.

YES! One of my all time classic favorites.
Don't think it is really fair to blame Goose, Keefe, PTM for sharing tidbits of info that their sources made them aware of as it relates to this coaching search. Everyone here is pumping them for information, and I don't recall Goose or Keefe explicitly saying Shaka was coming here - only references that have been made is that we will end up with a very good coach...
IWB - Well, he's generally been one of, if not the most informed insider as it relates to MU hoops - he obviously felt strongly enough about what he posted to stand by it - if it turns out to be false - he'll have to deal with the egg on face....yet I wouldn't place the blame squarely at his feet. Some thought to be reputable source gave him that information...and assuming it came from within MU administration...that person should be the one to catch hell, if this unravels.
KW
Actually I never said done deal. When signed contract announced it is done deal. I am quite confident that we will have the coach we want. Would appreciate it if you did not put words out there I did not say.
Been very careful in my wording because as a grown man things can happen during the process. Again, I remain confident.

He doubled down on this big time. I don't want to be overdramatic, but if he's off on this, it'll be hard for me to take him seriously moving forward. If he's right....the exact opposite.

That's on them to verify and confirm. If they got the info from IWB with no corroboration, that's on them. There is nothing that sources have reported that the media has to run with...they are running with things that may not be true, that's on them.
There were more views ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD of DW dating star jones than any of the coaching related topics. Go to the next page of topics if you doubt it
Did IWB officially retract anything from what he said earlier? I didn't see anything on twitter.

Possibly, but you have to give him money to hear the excuse.
Social Media has made it impossible to conduct a search like this in any orderly fashion.
Like it or not, us internet board lurkers are the very people we are railing against right now.

Nothing is blown. A little exposure by the media is not going to dictate a career decision by Shaka involving millions of dollars. I mean, come on. Let this play out.

Is that the coach "we" want or the coach MU wants? Probable consensus on the board is Smart is the "we". I am still behind you and your confidence, but the pessimism is starting to grow at a fever pitch.
If MU doesn't get Smart or Howland, I really feel for option #3. That coach will be scrutinized to all ends because of all this Smart rumors and theories. It will be a woulda/coulda/shoulda blame show for a long time. The true facts of this coaching search and who declined, who was offered, the money amounts, etc. will never be clarified and will only be speculation.

This is absolutely the case. IWB doubled down. He put it out there like gospel and it is looking possible that he may have prematurely ejaculated. The way he put out, he certainly did not leave any room for error. If wrong, I won't accept a "my source was wrong," because he claimed himself as the source.
Now, if this turns out false, his credibility is shot, or worse off, he will be blamed for sinking the deal with his over eagerness.
However, over the years, IWB has worked very diligently to gain reputation and credibility. I would be absolutely amazed if he blew it all in one careless remark. That is what keeps me optimistic about this whole scenario. I am not ready to lambast IWB, because I am not sure yet he was wrong.
Silence is golden and all comments so far have been up for interpretation. Let's see what happens. For Marquette's sake, and I suppose IWB's sake, I hope Shaka to Marquette still pans out.
The nation could give a rat's rump about our coaching search. The nation has lots of other stuff to laugh about.
And no matter what happens, let's make this clear right now: The media didn't "cost" us anything. Shaka Smart is a savvy guy who has been through this many times. He is not about to hinge what could turn out to be the most important decision of his professional life on what was said by a bunch of internet folks and lame broadcasters with "sources."
Bobby Knight was, is and always will be an ass. And that was a different era. Nothing compares to it.
