Then why no national coverage or release from VCU?
effing great. We'd better hope we get Howland.

Katz is national, so is Goodman.
What is VCU supposed to do? Issue a press release saying Smart is doing his job as a school employee?

It could be a long week or two if we end up falling through to plan B, plan c, plan d...
Still waiting...

They'd be releasing something every week if they responded to every rumor. It's on MU to confirm, not VCU to deny. And given the wait it seems they have nothing to confirm.
It seems crazy that all of this has occurred since Friday. I feel like I've been stressed about who our new coach will be for months.
I still can't shake the feeling that we are going to end up with our 5th choice when all is said and done.
Back to the drawing board. Wardle or Hopkins?
Shaking. It's not like this board to jump the gun.
The other thing to remember is that Marquette has not said anything either. So there is nothing for VCU to deny. This is what makes it seem like there is no fire from all of this smoke. Or Smart is not coming.
On the other hand. IWB does not usually talk till he knows. He hints at times and even then he is usually correct. He got this information from somewhere. Maybe an agent told MU that Smart would sign. And a source at MU told IWB this. And Smart has actually not signed. If this were the case he could still change his mind or his just using MU for more $$.

Marshall would be great as well. Beyond that....ugh

For the uninformed, who the hell is IWB?
Howland should've been our first choice from Day 1....and maybe he has been. The local media (and IWB) all look like fools. MU did nothing to create this sh;t storm themselves.
This whole scenario reminds me so much of the Minnesota search last year. I'm beginning to think Shaka likes seeing his name tweeted all over the place about this and that and really has never had any intention on leaving. If you read the ram nation forum, they think this board is crazy!...just like they did about Minnesota last year.

Wouldn't you? We look like fools. I'll hold off on the embarrassment talk until we name the next coach but this has a good chance of ending horribly. i.e. Howland going to Wake.

I agree. But sometime soon, Shaka is leaving VCU. I would bet within the next few years for sure if not this year. For them to think he would never leave is just as crazy. A few more early flameouts and maybe a few years of not making the tournament and he will lose his luster with the blue bloods really fast. he knows this too.
Finkel.....

That's the least of our worries.
If they were wrong, how do IWB and Dodds ever gain any credibility back?

Not much honor to it, but wouldn't it be exposing their "sources?" But the credibility really takes a hit with this blunder.
Still haven't heard a thing from any of these commits, or their people. Strange if a meeting happened that no one says anything about it given all the attention this has been gathering.

Pretty sure commits and their families don't have press conference to confirm a coach is staying or going. They become trusted "sources" for local and national basketball writers. Trusted national basketball writers spoke with them and delivered the news.
It's how this thing works. Good luck on your coaching search.

Many of their fans acknowledge exactly that. He will eventually leave for a blue blood. In general, their board seemed pretty level headed. They've been through this B.S. too many times (Illinois, UCLA, Minn, etc) to get worked up over the latest rumor.

Yeah, none of them have Twitter and they all have great self control. In the end you may be right, just think that if this meeting occurred there would be some hard news about it. The meeting was held to dispel the rumors. Why not actually dispel them?
This is not a normal situation for a hire with the lack of a President and AD. Remember the situation that ended up adding to Buzz's departure - the coach was running the school (i.e. Larry's departure). They may have to rush the announcement of a President before they announce a coach. Shaka still has to keep in contact with his commits regardless of his coaching status to keep them calm. He still has to talk to his coaches and assure them that they're getting a paycheck. Everyone may just have to keep quiet until the administration is in order.

Disagree with this, the admin is not going to be named until a fair amount after the new HC. Timing and optics prevent it from being anything else.

There as no "meeting" he spoke on the phone to the recruits and their coaches. The head of ESPN's college recruiting "nation" confirmed it. These are national writers, professionals, who are plugged into the AAU circuit, and focus on recruitment of HS players. They definitely have the connections to the coaches, since this is their bread and butter.
The only commit to tweet anything was Top 40 player Terry Larrier, who said something to the effect of "y'all gotta chill".

Why would they go through the same image problem within the administration that just cost them their coach? The response from MU Alumni acting like the Presidential Search Committee has just been sitting on their hands, but now all of a sudden jumped up and began looking for a President last Friday when Buzz announced he was leaving is plain wrong.

So do they have a press conference tomorrow and introduce a new President, AD, and coach?
