No real new information, just interesting timing.

If his reporting over the course of the season is any indication, I am surprised he manages to make it home safely every night.
Seriously though, it comes down to "who do you trust?" TVV or Hunt?
Likely belched into dictation software between pints of Ben & Jerry's
He calls VCU a commuter school. Does he know that is an insult? Is it true?

Buzz was kind of like Khan for Hunt with those worms implanted in his brain. Once Buzz left, Hunt was back to being a normal journalist.
Maybe I'm being too critical, but from this article it reads as though Hunt doesn't know Boston College is also in the ACC, not just Wake.
We all have our opinions of Hunt, most unfavorable for his efforts this year covering MU. But, he is a professional journalist and he won't pull the trigger on the news or jump on the Shaka to MKE bandwagon. Wouldn't he have sources good enough to be close to what Ganzer and Dodds, etc. reported?
One fact reported in VA but ignored around here: The VCU AD made a statement that MU has not reached out for permission to speak with Shaka. Unless we are going through Eddie Folger or some third party -- and we might -- I would think MU would seek permission. We have a history of being on the wrong side of this scenario, seems hard to believe we would work around the AD.
Here is what I think happened. The VCU trollers put a lot of BS on Twitter and it was picked up by enough 'non-professional' journalists, i.e., those whose primary income is not derived from journalism or the untrained. Anyway, someone re-tweets or makes a troll comment their own and after 5 hours it looks more and more reasonable and believable. Then all it takes is one semi-journalist or one questionable source to say "Shaka to MU" and we are off to the races.
The amazing part is that this reached local TV and they ran with it. Their confirmation Shaka was coming here now is Shaka "could" come to MU. Lots of CYA going on and wiggle room being carved out if it does not happen. Pippins and Jim and sticking to their guns -- I have to give them credit. They are all in and waiting for the flop.
I hope we get Shaka but I'm not holding my breath on it.

I don't disagree with your thought process, however Goodman and ESPN have been putting it out there all day that Wake Forest and Marquette have been in contact with Smart. Whether this is formal contact or MU and WF working through back channels (agent, friends, etc.) no one knows. Time will tell!

Saw that too... Odd that he only mentions WF as "main competition" due to its ACC affiliation.

I agree with just about everything here... except the defense of Hunt's professionalism. Several lines of pure speculation in his piece

Or that BC isn't in the mix. They are going after Pat Skerry.
I hear you....I guess my use of professional was more to describe journalism as his profession. He is sloppy and makes mistakes -- I see that as laziness. My point is you would think with his background he would jump all over this story if it was in fact true or backed by reasonable sources. I guess I think that he might have a different standard for what makes a source 'reliable' or maybe he can't corroborate what he would like to write ---Shake to MU. Either way, he is showing restraint here or just unable to get a second source to confirm this. This story would make a good case study for a journalism class (and I've never taken one).
One point on the VCU AD and not having been contacted. I could see if Cords/Strong used Doc Rivers to 'talk hoops' and gauge Smart's interest, that might not be enough 'official' contact for Shaka to bring it to the attention of the AD. Who knows. I think HBO should produce a fictional show about a high level basketball coach and what goes on behind the scenes from hiring, recruiting, practice, game, half-time, etc. Maybe I miss the White Shadow.

It is a commuter school. Located in Downtown Richmond, but not on a nicely centralized campus like MU.

You know, one could pretty easily argue that with all of the sports journalists in Milwaukee falling all over each other to report news that hadn't broken yet yesterday that Hunt is one of the few guys who has conducted himself with a pretty decent degree of professional decorum.

Except when he complains about the NYC public transit system.

I wonder how IWB will take the semi-journalist or questionable source label.

Can't imagine IWB would report something so definitive unless someone in the know told him something. If he did report it without confirmation, then he deserves the semi-journalist, questionable source label.

Kinda of like a hybrid of Blue Chips and Arliss.

I sure hope Ganzer wouldn't post that he was going to be our coach with some internet info. I really don't think he would risk his credibility with the Milwaukee basketball community on heresay unless it was from a reliable source. If he did, dumb dumb dumb. He would lose a lot of credibility.

IWB had 3 independent sources.

VCU is not a commuter school. More than 79% of VCU freshman live on campus. In my opinion that "journalist" failed to do his due diligence, but there's a lot of that going around the Milwaukee media these days...

I'm trying my best. I know these things take time and are way more complicated than the average fan really understands to get it done right.

Maybe I'm dumb but I really don't know what an independent source means...? Care to elaborate?
