predicts Shaka to MU
Jim Ganzer@theIWB·9m
I am predicting Shaka Smart will be the new coach at Marquette. #mubb
Is Jim Ganzer reliable? No hate to him I only met the guy a couple times in class.

When it comes MU, probably the most reliable.
When IWB speaks, you listen. The man knows his stuff and would not post something like this if he did not believe it to be 100% true.

He used to post on this board quite a bit. It was awesome. Everything he said came true. He would tweet that without very good information. He also organizes the summer league every year.

A valuable lesson: Be careful what you troll about, it just might come true.
It this happens amazing.
Had VCU been in the Big East, would this have still happened? See very few times a coach switches schools in the same conference. Could staying at 10 schools last year be one of the best decisions made in the past year?
Somewhat of an interesting corroboration on Twitter from the head coach at Manual H.S. in Peoria:

This deserves a bump.
If it ends up Shaka has been playing MU to gain leverage at VCU that's going to be upsetting. But you'd think Wild and Cords are wily veterans and could see if that were the case.

Agreed. Sounds pretty spot on to me. It wasn't about money in the end. All about Buzz trying to cover up something two years ago and then feeling disrepected ever since with the new AD and President who tried to control how he ran the program. Two years of putting your name out there for jobs and a 17-15 record ended up with Buzz getting pushed out the door. Clear he wanted out and we didn't want him anymore. The new conference had very little to do with it. Sad but could have been avoided on all parts.
IWB has been the best source of inside information regarding Marquette Hoops for a long time in my opinion. The only time he missed the boat was when he was throwing out false buy-out numbers with Crean's contract. This goes back to the old jsonline forum days. Where is Abe Froman now??
I feel good about Shaka signing with MU. Why? Because I trust Ganzer, who has been right a lot of times and wouldn't post it unless he felt pretty confident about the info. Patience.

My understanding of the Ganzers, the 1st Family of Marquette Message Boards (because Dodds doesn't have kids), is such:
Mike Ganzer is the famous Gato78. He's an attorney in town.
Jim Ganzer played football in college but remained a huge MU Hoops fan, he's IWB.

Truthfully, he has gone radio silent since making his call.
Where is IWB? He drops the big bomb and then he goes into hiding? Is he coming up with a plan to charge his premium subscribers more money next month?
If this all works out, IWB will look really good. I hope for him that this works out or he looks equally as bad.
Seems like a likable enough guy from his posts. Obviously he loves MU Hoops, so he is one of us and I'm pulling for IWB to come out of this looking really good.
I'm assuming he got slapped pretty hard on the hand after Monday's situation. Probably best to lay low to preserve his sources for the future.

When all of the backstories are told, he will be fine. The biggest problem with all of this is the leaking from the Athletic Department to guys who's job it is to disseminate the info. Plenty of others here know the entire story and are smart enough to just let it play out. Ganzer had a couple of guys telling him "done deal" because they thought it was a done deal. Agreeing in principal and signing on the dotted line are not the same. SS is the exact opposite of a knee-jerk kind of guy -- there are so, so many other issues that needed to be ironed out. When you all learn what went down -- regardless of which way it goes -- you will understand. I'm still blown away that somebody from the Dept. leaked that flight info to a twitter guy - just plain stupid. Certainly a fireable offense considering the stakes. Chill. It will all be over soon. And it will all make sense.

Good post, but IMO you don't say "done deal" until you have confirmation that all of the i's (and lower-case j's) and t's have been crossed. Even if someone said to him "IWB, lock it up, it's a done deal" he should have replied "so you saw him sign the contract?"

"Done Deal" put all his credibility on the line (credibility with MU fans that he's built up over the years and which enabled him to start his own site)...he should have sought more assurances or proof before going forward with it if there was ANY chance it wasn't totally done (or was just "very likely" but not actually a "done deal").

Not sure if he is a journalist or not but he describes himself as having reported and been credentialed for many events, FWIW. This is from the Brew City site:
Jim Ganzer, "IWB" – Jim Ganzer, or "IWB", has been involved in the Milwaukee sports media for 10 years. Despite having played college football at Loras College, Jim's expertise is in college basketball recruiting where he has reported for organizations such as Rivals and Scout.com. While basketball recruiting may be his specialty, Jim has also done work analyzing NFL rookies for The Sporting News & Fox Sports. Jim has covered everything from high school & college sports to professional hockey, soccer, baseball, football and auto racing. Over the years Jim has been credentialed by the NCAA, Big East, Big 10, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, IndyCar and NASCAR. Jim is also the founder and Executive Director for the Scion Dental Milwaukee Summer Pro-Am, a summer basketball league for college and pro basketball players.

No question that IWB is legit, it was just a little bit of semantics that set off a firestorm. This too shall pass.
I think Ganzer is a good guy and would not have posted something so concrete unless he thought he had it nailed down tight. I would not describe him as someone who would take a chance at being wrong, just to be first. In the past he has been right on the money (recruiting info) and he would take a very cautious position with vague references "something good will happen soon" or "I'll be out of town..." (signifying something will happen). When he came out and said "done deal" I had no reason to doubt he thought he had solid information. Everything that followed relied, in part, to Ganzer's proclamation although Harv/Roy has denied Ganzer as his sole source.
Again, this information is only coming from recruiting specialists. If it was true, why haven't other 'normal' journalists picked up the story on their own? For me, that is the head scratcher. With all the leaks out there, only Ganzer and Harv/Roy are getting the info?
Interesting times indeed...

Again, this information is only coming from recruiting specialists. If it was true, why haven't other 'normal' journalists picked up the story on their own? For me, that is the head scratcher. With all the leaks out there, only Ganzer and Harv/Roy are getting the info?
Interesting times indeed...
I don't doubt IWB is a good guy, and I don't doubt he had a source he trusted telling him it was a done deal (though he cited himself as the source). And for all we know his source was right, or at least believed he was right. But when you make proclamations based on anonymous sources that turn out (possibly) wrong, the loss of credibility falls on you.
