Here is the latest I'm getting on Marquette. Ben Howland was the first name really floated out there to gauge reaction. Howland initial asking price pretty high. Also there is a contingent of Marquette people of influence who are anti Howland and want Shaka Smart. Greg Marshall is another name but seems like that would be tough to pull off. Another name of interest is Archie Miller, but there are questions on whether Marquette wants to wait on Dayton's season to end.

You wasted more time typing the response then you did reading the post. Get over it.
Where does it say Howland wants too much money?

Calling Scoopers people of influence?
I think this board posts way too many threads, especially during games. But I feel this was definitely thread worthy

"Initial asking price was pretty high." What do you think that means?
Time to strap it on and make a splash! Throw Monopoly $ at Smart with high buyout and let's get on with it. Enough of the foreplay.
Pay the man. I'll write a check big enough to cover...his new stationary.

Agreed. Time for the happy ending.

It means that we better have William Shatner in our corner.

Price is always relative.
Could it mean that he is asking for more than MU can afford to pay a coach? Sure, I suppose. But then it would also mean that the asking price is higher than MU is willing to pay specifically for Howland's services.
But it doesn't necessarily have to be both.
Fine, I relent. I'll also cover the streamers and balloons at his welcoming party.

It means they are trying to get Smart and biding time to mull the financial decision (and leaking it) until Smart gives them a definitive "no" - which he hasn't.
I assume this is what is called 'negotiating' and why contracts are not signed in a day, especially when there are more than one targets out there.
You don't lead with your best offer, and the other side, even if he wants the job shouldn't accept the first offer.

No need, Dominic James is already picking up the balloon tab

No, the title of the thread states a conclusion that is not reflected in the post and you 100% deserved to be called out on it.
Wow are you getting anal
But I agree with you that these are gambits. This is why it will take another day or two
patience.

Reportedly signed an extension through 2019 today.
The title of this thread is mis-leading. Makes it sound like Howland is out of the picture.
If we can't eventually agree with Howland on a contract that's one thing, but that isn't the case as far as I've heard.
I would too. Especially when you don't know who your bosses are going to be.

I guess we're not all smart like you.
I hope whoever negotiates the next coach's contract is not the same guy who allowed the reduction of the buyout to $100,000 if we have no AD. If true, that is crazy.
If howland's price is legitimately too rich for MU, it'll be too rich for BC & Wake. These are all rumors but Howland's negotiating power is a little less than Smart of Marshall. Each of them can stay put. Howland's income goes to zero next year without a job.
I'm confident that MU will do the right thing and arrive at a deal with BH which all parties will find equitable.
