but I'd be really disappointed if we didn't literally through the bank at Shaka and see if by some miracle he bites.

Banks are closed on Sunday. We can go through the bank tomorrow. ;)
In seriousness, though, I agree, but it should be a very quick process. This University doesn't have time to dance around with guys. You also don't want Wake and BC to decide to give Howland a shot.

Completely agree. The sooner the better.
I would love Howland. I'd just like to hope we at least offer everything we got at Shaka and see what happens.
I mean people say he won't leave because he had better offers in the past. Then I point to Buzz....

+10000 - - I would have to think MU is trying to assess Shaka's interest...perhaps Saul Phillips at NDSU as well now that they are bounced. Given what Marshall has accomplished at Wichita State...I can't understand why, yet I'd put him 3rd or 4th in order of preference: Shaka, Howland, Marshall/Phillips.
Phillips is a likable dude, reminds me of Buzz in some ways...great interview...but is from the state and would have less wanderlust than Buzz had being from Texas..
I like Phillips as well, but if he does a good job could bolt to Badgers after Bo is gone. That would be my worst case scenario
Alright so I snagged this off the badgers board but a badger fan says...
"Marquette should hire Saul but they are going hard after Shaka Smart and he is listening. a source with in the process says 60% percent this happens"
I'm going with complete lie but man that would be nice.
No one here doubts Shaka Smart would be a HUGE get for MU and definitely trump Buzz to Va. Tech. My only concern is what would happen once he had success at MU. If Smart comes here and in 2-3 years takes us to a Sweet 16 or beyond, there goes the speculation about moving onto a bigger job. I would love Smart as our coach, but would like to some stability too. I think Howland would bring that stability.
The man has been to a Final Four. You would have to think that he's not going to take a job just to itch for bigger at the first sign of marginal success. If you're signing Shaka with dreams of Sweet 16 runs, you're doing it wrong.
I can only imagine there must be some interest/talking taking place between Shaka and Marquette...given that Howland and MU have talked and Howland has formally expressed his interest/desire to have the job....only reason they wouldn't offer it is that they haven't fully vetted all possible avenues...
Of the coaches to vet - Shaka, Saul Phillips (perhaps), Gregg Marshall. I'm ruling out Marshall as if they go on run/win today...just don't see MU wanting to wait for another week + to see if Marshall would come...
We know Wardle would take the job in an instant...so nothing to vet there....leads me to believe Shaka is definitely in play...and now today, perhaps Saul Phillips given that his season ended last night.
I like coach K, might be a long shot, but MU should weigh all options.
Shaka Smart? Start the Novena right now!

Coach K, seriously?
Is Bernie Fine still available?
Here's a link to Smarts most recent contract:
1.5 million a year through 2023. Not sure what his buyout is. He'd be my first choice followed by Howland
From USA TODAY:
Shaka Smart to remain as basketball coach at VCU
Shaka Smart's new contract with VCU will run through 2023 and pay $1.5 million per year.

I find it hard to believe he would consider MU now. But I love it.
However, There is a part of me that wants Shaka to stay in Richmond so to make the Teaballers's job even more difficult than it is.

Coach Krystkowiak...
Ha. Coach K isn't exactly synonymous with Larry Krystkowiak.

His wife is an invaluable recruiting tool.
