Howland is not currently employed so he can be formally contacted.
You cannot directly contact a coach with a contract as part of that coach's contract says he cannot discuss other jobs. So you do it back channel, call his agent, that is one of the reasons they have them. Or, his agent calls your AD and says his client is interested in your opening.
So the only names we will ever know that were directly contacted are the unemployed like Howland. Coaches that are employed we will never know as it all second hand anyway.

The only big time coach at a big time university that I could think of that we consider a move would be Bennett. Wisconsin ties. He would be considered big time and Virginia is a big time university.
Doubt Tony would consider MU since there was and probably still is some bitterness in not offerin' his father, who was at UW-Green Bay, after KO bolted.

That might be true but I can't figure out who else would fit the parameters of being a current big time coach at a big time university and that is willing to come to MU. I keep thinking of coaches who are looking to get out of the hot seat of their current position. I don't want an Oliver Purnell type that had some success but sees the writing on the wall that its never going to get that good again. That is why I mentioned Tony Bennett.

Maybe at that point in time he wasn't ready to come home just yet and now he is ready. You never know. Some leave their home and never come back. Some leave and come back quickly and some leave and after a decent time away eventually come back home.

Thad thinks he can win an NC in his seat and he's right. He will never move unless "encouraged" and that is not happening.

Just because a high major coach is interested, and even a highly successful high major coach, it does not mean we want them.
If Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg was interested? Are we? He managed to get to a three seed with transfers, jocos and other "problem children." Does that fit our mission?

I was with Coach K, but I think the bigger point was to toss out names and see if they lead to anything. @DenverMU has a feeling that it's a coach from a football school, tired of playing second fiddle. Until we know who it is, it's fun to speculate and make up reasons it makes sense. Better than complaining about Beige Buzz (figured it's a good parallel to Tanned Tommy?)
