at the time, but in light of Mbakwe's injury, maybe Shumpert was truthful when he said he took into account where he would enjoy attending school if he was hurt and couldn't play basketball.
- doesnt want to compete for playing time
- wants to make sure it is fun if he gets hurt
Oh brother

Great work.
I was wondering how you would turn Mbakwe's injury into some sort of swipe at the program.
You managed to do it.
Took you longer then I thought though.

Is there such a thing as a tri-sign?
This is somewhat ot but I have a friend who works for the sun times sports department and he said the rumor is shumpert didn't choose mu because he got in a fight with sc. I don't know how much truth is there but that's the rumor is proffesional circles

I tend to not believe a lot of things the Sun Times sports dept says just because they hire people like Jay Mariotti ;) Plus, I can't see SC getting into a fight with someone unless Iman said something inappropriate. Scott's a really easygoing guy and very laid back. Been in the elevator at Humphrey with him a few times and seems like he's one of the nicest guys you could meet around campus.
Haha yea just thought it was worth mentioning

That story is out there. Now, the question is, if someone were to start a rumor as to why Shumpert didn't want to come to MU wouldn't they have come up with something more realistic then a fight between SC and IS? Unless it were true......
SC as in christopherson? If that is true its a shame that a guy who hasnt played a game for the university cost MU its most highly considered recruit in ages. Im not putting blame on him because maybe it was shumperts fault, but even so I think would be SC's responsibility to keep his mouth shut and solve any problems afterwards. If it were mcneal, james, matthews, ouse, or any other upperclassman that had a problem its a little different.
Reguardless I guess it doesnt matter, I just think its a shame if current players are costing us recruits
this rumor's been going around since he visited. i've heard it from a bunch of different people. when a little liquor and egos are involved, sometimes things happen. i like the feistiness in SC, and if shumpert is walking into schools thinking he's the man and starting crap then good riddance...
Wow. Shumpert simply picked Georgia Tech over Marquette and UNC because he wanted more playing time which he will get.
I thought it was bad when people placed the blame on Crean but now fueling rumors that Scott Christopherson is the reason he chose Georgia Tech? What's next? Blaming it on MU having an interm AD? Come on. Shumpert simply felt that GT was a better fit for him. Nothing more nothing less. There is no need to place blame anywhere.
not placing blame. simply commenting that it apparently happened, and it most likely had an effect on his decision. just like you maintain shumpert chose GT because he apparently wants a ton of immediate playing time. truth is, no one will ever know the real reason except iman shumpert, and that's the way it should be...

Have there been any character issues with SC? Not that I'm aware of. I don't think a current player should roll over for a recruit. If it's true, I think it's a lucky break that he's NOT here.
IF it happened, good for Scott.
I wonder if the "fight" involved SC with a needle and Shumpert with an inflated head.
about Chumpert, the happier I am that he's elsewhere.
Simply put, if its true, then good for Scott. Iman was a guest in our program, Scott is a member. I don't care how good Iman is, if thats the type of attitude that he is going to carry with him, then I'm glad he's going to GT.
I disagree with you guys and I think that some of what everyone is saying is cause Iman dissed MU. As someone noted, when some booze and some big egos get together, especially those at similar positions, there can be comments made that can cause arguments. However, I feel like the current players should treat any recruit, especially those that the coaching staff has worked so hard to bring here, as actual teammates. So even if Iman said something to SC to the tune of Im better than you and Im gonna take your spot I think SC needs to walk away from it and be a bigger man, maybe say something like we could do some damage together out there. You CANNOT have current players ruining the schools chances of bringing in recruits. Some might say that 2 players not getting along would ruin the comraderie, but I say get the guy here and then the coaches can take care of the rest (could even be benificial due to added competition).
My discussion here is assuming that Iman is at fault. If SC was, then its really upsetting for the program. All in all it doesnt matter and its not gonna change how i feel about SC, I hope he has a great career here. I just dont see the 'good for SC argument' over the 'maybe he shoulda been the bigger man for the good of the program' argument
I can put this to rest w/in a week. I'll just ask Scott next time I see him in the elevator. ;D
the more and more I read about Shumpert, the more and more I relate him to OJ Mayo, not his playing style, but his attitude, which isn't a good quality to be like Mayo on attitude. Because he chose a team based on playing time shows that he doesn't care to improve, or fight for a job, he wants an easy ride, easy grades, easy women (from the post about what to do without basketball). Good riddence, Don't let the Al Center's door hit your ass on the way out
Can we get a home and home with GT next year? I'd love to see a hard-pick from SC on IS ala Steve Novak against...I forgot who...but he laid someone out.

I believe you are thinking of Novak's hard pick against St Johns in 2005-2006 which actually followed the hardest pick I'd ever seen from Ooze on the same guy. The game ended with an ally-oop off the backboard. DON'T PISS OFF MU!

haha... that pick was against St. John's. If I remember right it sparked MU to a strong second half in what was a pretty physical game.
I've heard the Christopherson rumors as well, but what I had heard was Iman had too much to drink and got in his face, but it didn't come to blows. Kind of a non-story now, we got Taylor, so its all good.
i sure hope IS and MU players were not drinking during his visit. this story seems a bit far-fetched; i've heard he just didn't care for the city of milwaukee and preferred atlanta.

Who's Iman? ;) No seriously, we should stop talking about him, start talking about Tyshawn, he wanted to play at MU, we should give him the MU love.
I agree no reason to worry about Iman ne more... he is not ours and thats that it doesnt matter why he didnt come... im sure if SC is the reason that TC has taken care if it already and has talked to SC about it so im not worried
are true that Iman Chumpert got into it with SC during his official visit and was crap-faced beside, Crean should have had the balls to immediately withdraw his scholarship offer. Disappointing that he apparently didn't.
I don't care if Chumpert is the second coming of Magic Johnson, he's a bad actor and I don't want him in the program if he isn't bright enough to be on his best behavior during a visit. Just who in the hell does he think he is coming in here talking smack to a potential teammate after he's illegally been drinking underage?
Adios, mf'er.
perhaps the rumors aren't true.
regardless, it's water under the bridge and poor sportsmanship to berate him his choice regardless of the reasons. I say "thank you for your consideration. It didn't work out but best of luck to you in the future." and leave it at that.
Next?

I never played basketball for Marquette and I had an AWESOME time at Marquette.
Hey I'm brand new to this site but I just thought I'd put this insight in there...take of it what you will. I'm a freshman at MU and I'm in Christopherson's English class. We have 20 kids in the class and are put into groups of 4 for each of the different papers we write so it's hard not to talk to each kid in the class at some point. At first I didn't really talk to him very much but then we started talking and he is one of the most down to earth people I have met. He welcomes any conversation and is one of the most polite people I know, to any person. I now sit next to him in every class and since it's a 75 minute class rather than a 50 minute class it gets long and boring so we often talk about sports and just the college life in general. We talked about Fifa 08 (the soccer video game) and he said he hadn't gotten it yet so I told him he could come to my dorm and play and it seemed like he kind of just let it go (didn't flat out say no but didn't accept the offer either) so I figured oh he's just too cool to be seen in any other dorms, but later I got an e-mail from him saying he just got the game and invited me to come over sometime and play. He also has not missed any of the classes this semester and always has his homework done on time and participates more than about 90% of the class (including me). He is very intelligent and I would be absolutely shocked if he ever started a fight with anyone for any reason, and if somebody attempted to pick a fight with him I would be shocked if he did anything other than turn and walk away, especially a potential recruit. I highly doubt he had any reason in Shumpert's choosing Georgia Tech over MU. Christopherson is a sincerely nice, polite kid who I can tell works hard at basketball and school.

This is a nice contribution and to clarify things a bit the version I heard didn't have Christopherson in the wrong at all. In fact, quite the opposite. Also, things that have been told to me regarding SC's personality and character are right in line with what was mentioned in the quoted passage. He is a genuinely good kid.

Nice post, well written. Sounds like a nice kid. Glad to hear that.
Too be honest, I've been reading this thread for a while (along with other posts about shumpert).
Does it really matter why Shumpert chose GT?
He seemed like a decent kid throughout the entire process and he made the choice that he thinks is best for him.
I'm disappointed that he didn't choose MU, but I'm not going to be like a "psycho ex-girlfriend" and wonder why he didn't chose me(MU), and question his character and speculate on rumors, innuendos etc. etc.
I don't know what happened with him and SC... but it's definitely a rumor, and definitely not important.
Best of luck to Iman at GT. Best of luck to all of MU's current and future players.
