I'd take that.

Marshall or Smart would be homerun hires.

If Marshall truly was in the mix, better get him now befor Izzo quits MSU in a month and goes to the Pistons.

Agreed. Gimme Marshall. That'd be incredible. Shaka not bad either. Hell, get Doc.

Not sure how we can know this though. I can say with 100% confidence that the athletic department did not know Buzz was leaving until the news came out. There were rumors, but nobody knew what was going on. Hasn't Greg Marshall been a bit preoccupied since then?

That would be a huge get.  I got Wichita in the final four, now I want them to lose tonight, screw my bracket.

Howland interested, Marshall possibly interested, our dynamic freshman staying...things are looking UP at MU.

Truthfully, this just killed my Howland buzz. Names just being thrown about...Howland makes sense at this point, Marshall does not.

As a Cubs fan, I would be in favor of going the "College of Coaches" route...

Hire Gregg Marshall to run the offense.
Hire Shaka Smart to run the defense.
Hire Ben Howland to run the practices (may need some help to avoid those in-practice melees...)
Hire Brian Wardle to run the alumni department.

What could possibly go wrong???

Marshall has shown he is a very good coach, but how well can he recruit? Honest question.

Well enough to go to a Final 4 and the next season to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Sounds well enough to this Marquette fan.

If we get Marshall, we would be taking a slight step up and would be lucky to get him. Make it happen admin!

I'd take that.

Don't think it is going to happen.  I mentioned him 6 years ago in the original search.  I met him when he was at Winthrop.  I would go crazy if it happened, but he doesn't like the media much, or big markets, the pressure, etc.  He has a heart condition.  He also recruits a ton of JUCOs which could be a problem at MU.

All that being said, Milwaukee isn't a huge market and not a pressure cooker by the media, but that has been the word on the street for a long time on why he doesn't take bigger jobs.

He makes about $1.8M a year

I honestly don't understand this Marshall Hype. Yes Wichita has had two very good years recently.  But he hasn't put anyone in the NBA, which is what recruits want to hear.

Anyone else question the timing on this? I mean his team was about to take the floor.  Unless he was in the know before (if it was known buzz was leaving as some speculated in other threads) I can't imagine he would have formed an opinion, and if he was thinking about it in the hour before a game, I don't want him. Would lead me to believe he was/would be always looking to leave.

Doesn't like the media? Perfect! Mike Hunt is asleep at the wheel! If it lands us Marshall, give him an extension, J/S!

There are 200 Division I coaches out there who could have done a better job with this year's team than Buzz did. And 150 of them would work for half of what the phony made. Get any one of them.

Did anyone read that article in SI about his implosion at UCLA and his inability to communicate and handle his players?  I'm not high on him.  Maybe I'm off base, but I'd like someone younger and a bit more dynamic...say Larry Brown?

Option #1 in my mind at this point, and one of the only coaches that would give us an obvious UPGRADE, which would be fairly mind blowing . Really want this to happen.

I played for Miles at Southwest Minnesota State.  I can assure you he's a great coach, but always looking for the next job.

He has had 4 jobs in 10 years.

Success at every level, but will have no loyalty to this program.  Need someone who feels this is his dream job, Tim Miles would never feel that way.

Also has a two handed jump shot!!  (=

Mike Lonergan - GW

Mike Hopkins - word is that he is itchy to become a head coach. boeheim ain't retiring for a couple more years.

Don't like Hopkins at all.  A Syracuse lifer who'd love to go somewhere to get his feet wet as a head coach, then when Boeheim does retire, he's gone.
