Title: Recruits
Post by: jesmu84 on March 21, 2014, 04:54:31 PM
Yes, I'm going to freak out for a moment...

How will this affect our 2014 commits? As well, further, what about 2015, 16, 17 kids? Nick N? Stone?

We could very quickly bottom out. Especially if assistants who have created recruiting in-roads leave like Chew.

unnatural carnal knowledge.

I am not terribly worried about our instate guys, or even the Chicago born players like Steve.  I don't see Burton or Duane leaving, and I feel the same way about the MU lifers like Noskowiak, Cohen, and Flory.  I'm not even convinced this will affect our status with Stone.

If we obviously didn't know what was going through the mind of a 40yr old why would we even pretend to know what is going through the mind of a teenager?

When has that stopped anybody on this board before.

I'd be surprised if he left.  It has a chance to really be "his team" next year

Nick N. just tweeted that people need to stop asking him questions, because he has no answers right now.

Attaboy.  We're just as committed to him.

We'll soon see that the program is bigger than one man.  Players staying, a coach with three Final Fours reportedly expressing interest in taking the helm.

This is where I have the biggest problem. Is that his players are shocked. They should be the first to know. That to me is the most classless thing of the entire situation.

Lets keep it that way and hope the players know

Hell yeah to Burton...love him taking a leadership position and stating his intentions right away.  Milwaukee kid, who wanted to be an example to Milwaukee kids...shows he'd at MU for that reason above Buzz.

Also think with how bizzarely Buzz coached team this year - this may actually HELP retain some of the young talent...can't think for a minute JJJ, Burton and Dawson all weren't scratching their heads...wondering WTF?

I really just want to keep most of our incoming guys.  If we can get a coach like Howland I will feel infinitely better about our recruiting chances.  Chew will just be damage control to keep his connection with the recruits.

Howland also has proven success with bigs (i.e. Love).  Our only hope for Stone.

Serious question .. why would any player (beyond juniors) stay at MU?   There's just a world of better opportunities out there right now, for a transfer or new recruit.

Obviously, if you're from Wisconsin and want to play close to home, ok, that makes sense.   Otherwise .. really?

MU, via crushing losses of the Big East, ESPN, and now Buzz leaving is half the program it was 12 months ago.    Brutal.

Exactly why we need a proven coach (i.e. Howland).  This is not an appropriate time to be giving someone a chance to prove themselves.

Recruits can rest easy. Marquette will hire a coach interested in playing the best players, not who he "believes in". Good riddance.

Marquette is a really good job, they'll hire a great coach and continue to be a high level program.

That's awesome!  Can't wait to see Duane playing.  This may keep Johnson around now...we have the new big three in place at the 1 2 and 3.  I think Fischer is staying too.  Not really worried about the squad.  Derrick won't be starting and playing so many minutes now that Buzz is gone.  How fast things change.

The players need to be the biggest recruiters right now. Have a great, young local nucleus of talent that will keep us afloat for the next 3-4 years.

Well he can't sign an LOI yet so the commitment = verbal. Probably just being detailed. Doesn't mean he is 100% confirmed here though...like any early signee.

Glad to hear Duane, Burton, and Noskowiak are still in the fold....for now. I'm not worried about the Chicago/Wisconsin kids. Steve, Harris, Cohen, Fischer, and Flory should still be golden. Pierce, I don't think he is getting better offers than us, especially with him sitting chunks of his senior season. The juniors may leave if they feel that they will be replaced on the depth chart.

Biggest questions marks: JJJ, Hill, Shayok, and Dawson

So, just thinking about coaching hires and recruit relations.  I'm on-board the Howland train, but, in further thinking, does hiring Howland make sense to not see MU drop a bit in the short term? Say the choice is Howland or Archie Miller - would we be better off taking Miller d/t his current recruits and recruiting further out already being established? As we're seeing with a couple 2014 MU commits, they're opting out in hopes to follow Buzz (one would assume). So, would bringing in a current coach allow for us to keep some guys coming in next season that are already tied to that coach?
