A nice player and nicer person.
In my mind he will always be a disappointment. Seems that since his high school days there were expectations of greatness. Maybe those were unfair but they were there none the less. While he certainly didn't have a horrible career, he came nowhere close to where most likely expected. This season was by far the most disappointing as it's the first time in Buzz's tensure the player who should step up and be great didn't.
I think he was very overrated and lots of unfulfilled potential. Seems like his motor ran hot and cold. He was however a great representative of MU and provided some very valuable contributions during his time here.

Big p ussy on the basketball floor with oodles of talent. I like Jamil, but he is probably the most frustrating player at MU since I have followed.
Davidson comeback & stepping in at center when Otule went down.
A great kid, a good ambassador for MU. A great talent. Insanely versatile. Could play all 5 positions on both ends of the floor. Made many contributions to MU's success his first two years on the floor. The disappointment and debate come from his inability to step into the leadership role this team required. He gave glimpses, but it never became who he was on an every game basis. His strength was his fatal flaw. Again, nice kid, smart kid, great, deferential teammate, exemplary representative of MU......no inner beast.
A more charismatic version of Scott Merritt.
Had some great games, and a solid career. On the other hand, he was frustrating because no one could quite unlock the potential.
Most frustrating player I've seen since I started following the team. Loads of potential, but a soft player and weak senior leader. He had all the opportunity in the world to be the unquestioned leader of this team this year, especially after Vander left, but he never took it. It's unfortunate his career had to end with such a disappointing season, he seems like a nice young man.
FWIW I could still see him making an NBA roster at some point, sort of the Jerel McNeal route.

Keefe said it right---- Bernard Toone. Was McGuire's biggest headache interms of laying it all out on the floor.

I think he'll play a season or two at the end of a bench somewhere in the NBA. He is a smart, well-rounded, athletic player who can come in and play error-free basketball. He just doesn't do well when expectations are higher than that.

Poor man's Toone. Bernard was a top 10 (maybe top 5) player out of high school. 6'9" with a phenomenal touch inside and out. But I'd trust Jamil to babysit my grandchildren. Toone? Not so much

Top 5. And Jamil would be a far better babysitter.
Basketball side, an overrated bum. He will never see the NBA unless somehow he becomes a rebounding machine.
