Curious what people think the BE teams need to do in the tourney for the league to be looked at as successful?
Four team in isn't bad, although the league definitely isn't getting a ton of respect. Can that be turned with some deep runs?
I think a lot rests on Creighton doing well - at least elite 8 and Villanova not going home early. If both of those teams advanced to sweet 16, with Providence or Xavier getting to the second round, that would be a successful performance and reflect well on the league. If Creighton goes down early and only Nova is left, we are going to hear a lot more about a weak BE.
Does not matter.
Marquette aint playing. Im not going to be like an Ole Miss football fan that thinks they are good because they get their brains beat in by Auburn, Bama, LSU. Just cause the teams around you are good does not make you good!!
I think if all four teams advance and Creighton and Nova get to the Sweet 16, it will be good enough to say we were a good conference this year. I think Nova could go very deep...I don't see Creighton playing more than two or three great games in a row...and they will need to be great to get into the Sweet 16. I can see Baylor being tough for Creighton...and if they do advance, I see Wisconsin beating an off Creighton. And also...if Nebraska happens to advance and meet Creighton, Nebraska will come out with their hair on fire until Creighton takes control of the game. Nova, I think, has an easier road to the elite 8.
I do agree, though, that since MU is not in, I don't really care that much.

S-E-C, S-E-C, S-E-C, S-E-C!
I just want our teams to play to their seed.

You miss the point of this entire thread. Its about what is good for the Big East, not Marquette.
And we can get an Ole Big east match-up of UConn vs. Villanova. Should be an interesting game.
I thought Providence had the best chance of making some noise, but an 11th seed vs North Carolina means they are done. I think the over under on NCAA Big East wins should be 3 1/2 and I would take the under.
Dont care so long as Creighton loses really early. A Wiscy, Creighton matchup would be absolutely miserable because that means one of those teams is guaranteed a spot in the elite 8.

Seriously? Creighton has a cake first game likely followed by a Baylor team who plays a lazy zone. 2+ wins is likely. Nova is not losing to Milwaukee. Also will be favored in game 2. Xavier favored tonight as well. If the conference wins only the games it should it will have 5 wins.

My answer as well. I'll weight it based on over/under achievement of seed line.

They win, we get money. Works for me.

If that's the matchup, go Creighton

I dont even know about that anymore...Thats how bad of an experience I had with their fans. That and I have lost almost all respect for McFlopper.

I agree that the BE teams doing well this year doesn't mean we were any better - we were what we were.
But there are still advantages for the BE and MU if the BE teams do well:
1. Tournament success = direct $$$ from the NCAA
2. Tournament success = more people familiar with the names = bigger ratings next season = long-term $$$ from Fox
You can argue that there might also be others, but these alone make me cheer for BE teams to do well. And it's a lot easier now that ND is no longer in the conference....
Creighton and Nova in the sweet 16 would be a success. But I agree that using the tournament to evaluate the conferences against each other is a flawed analysis.

You are relentless on this. Short of an attempted abduction, I have to think you're partially responsible for your hatred becoming all-consuming.
As for Dougie being a flopper? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Gardner flopped more in one half than McBuckets has this entire campaign.

I'm with esard on this one. Creighton flopped more than any other team I've ever seen.
That said, I'd still like to see them do well in the tournament for the good of the conference.

Firstly, more than any team
ever? Hyperbole, much? Never watched a Duke player stand for a charge?
Secondly, the entire team flops? Or, only Dougie flops? Or, could it be just one guy who does it and you can't remember his name so you're just going to go with the feeling that they're the worst flopping team in your lifetime?
McDermott definitely flops and whines a lot. I would say the same about D. Wade and a lot of NBA stars. They are still great players.
I know several Creighton fans and I just tell them to enjoy it while it lasts. This is a once in a generation team for them.

Yes, ever. And yes, the entire team. They are clearly coached this way. Not hyperbole. It was clearly evident from watching them, and not just against MU.
To their credit, they work the refs to their favor and get the calls. It works for them. Its just not fun to watch as a fan.
The Big East is already successful. The league did well in it's first year from many different perspectives. In particular Competition was strong across the board. A reasonable performance from Villanova and Creighton is likely in the tournament. Anything that comes from Xavier and Providence is gravy.

Well, I guess that's your low bar. It's weird that this flopping uproar is limited to MU fans. There is no national inside joke over the Creighton flops like there is with Duke. There is no dismay over the best player in America being a fierce flopper. There is no mention that it's one of McDermott's coaching tenets.
Seems to me it's seven or eight MU fans who post on an internet forum and built this mindset whilst watching their underachieving and overly frustrating team get bitch slapped in their own gym.
Course, in the recent past when MU was converting more FTs than their opponents were even attempting I know none of that came from working the refs to their favor and getting calls.

This part I agree with you. It kind of has become a self fulfilling prophecy. I mean, they really were awful and I really disliked how all of their fans at the Bradley Center acted. (not just one or two) I overracted a smidge but the fans combined with Greg, Doug and Wragge really turned me off to the program.

I dont care that they beat us. I hate them but I fully admit theyre a good team. Its how they went about winning I didnt like. I can now see what WV fans hate Buzz because of the "country two step" because I couldnt stand the middle aged men and women taunting the students after the game.

Not sure where I did that.
You are defending Creighton in the face of general consensus that this team flops. Its logical to assume you are from Nebraska. Perhaps you are not, but it doesn't seem like much of a leap.
For the record, Creighton is definitely a top 25 team and McFlop is the best player in the country. I'm not denying either of those. But the team still flops. And its not fun to watch. That's my only complaint.

General consensus? Hahaha. Like I wrote, it's seven or eight Marquette fans on an internet forum. This narrative isn't being told nationwide. Hell, google "Creighton basketball floppers" and virtually nothing comes up other then Huskers fans bitching (which sounds familiar).
Why aren't resident snarky writers like Parrish, Gottlieb, and Brennan writing about this? Why haven't we seen uproar over the national player of the year being torn apart for flopping like we've seen Marcus Smart being torn apart? Crickets........
As for your logic regarding Nebraska? Wrong. I'm from Jersey.

Because everybody has a hard on for McFlopper. Father, son coach and player duo. He gave up his scholarship to have another person play. Hes arguably the best college player since Michael Beasley. Media isnt going to bad mouth him. You dont even see the pundits at ESPN ripping Lebron for flopping.

He's the media darling. And he does have a good storyline.
Doesn't change anything though.

Alright kids, back to Western Civ. You're being blinded fanatics about this. When you grow up, you'll realize that hating a team simply because they're kicking the crap out of your team doesn't always lead to misguided falsehoods that you need to stubbornly stand by as some sort of principle.
As for media, google LeBron and flopping. He gets crushed. As for media, everyone takes pot shots at Duke for the "charges" they take and K is a
beloved coach. As for media, google Marcus Smart who was a media darling in October for turning down NBA riches and was excoriated in February for flopping.
Your brains will be happy the sooner you two take off the tinfoil.
Im allowed to hate a team. Creighton is because of their fans which is a similar reason to why I dislike Ohio State.

Cool condescension, bro. I'm actually not in school anymore. Here's the thing, you claim these are misguided falsehoods that we invent because we are in denial that Creighton is a better team. Except that I've never denied that. They are a very good team. A top 25 team. They have the best player in the country. And they still flop. And I still hate Creighton.
