Speculation of Buzz going to Auburn.

Doesn't make sense... good basketball takes a back seat in both conferences.
This is probably a good business move by Hunt. If he keeps us focused on baseless rumors, maybe we won't notice he's 2 weeks late to every news story.
In all fairness to Hunt (am I really saying this?), it seems to me that he isn't giving the story any credence, he's just saying here go the usual rumors.
Mike Hunt stinks and I'm sure he is loving this opportunity to troll. Buzz has called him out numerous times and Buzz rarely gives Mike Hunt anything of substance. This probably irritates Mike Hunt hence the constant articles when things go bad. Was Mike Hunt this active last year at this time? Seems he is writing more now than ever.
Mike Hunt seems irritated. Mike Hunt really needs to shave that bush, too.
Buzz to Auburn? How bad does Hunt think working for Marquette is?

He obviously thinks that it's equivalent to being forced to cover a local basketball team that you hate by a newspaper that desperately wants you to quit your job and start a new career as a covered gutter salesman.

Well, it would be less pressure on Buzz. Football power that has plenty of money and doesn't really give a crap but wants a respectable BBall program.

Ding ding ding.
The way Buzz has handled criticism this year makes me think that his next move will be a place like Auburn. Safe in realignment, plenty of money, zero pressure.

How did he handle it? I don't remember him addressing it except for the one time that he complained about the fans booing a Jake Thomas three-pointer.

I think that's exactly MUfan's point. I hope Buzz has a little more respect for the game than that, though with how much of a mess our university's leadership is, nothing would surprise me.
I said a few weeks ago, imagine if Davidson didn't cough it up last year? We would have been one and done as Big East champs losing to a 13 seed followed up by a year in which we didn't make the NIT when we were picked to repeat as champions.
I imagine a few folks would feel a little differently right now.

We lose to Davidson and does Vander go pro. I'm not so sure. Can't live on what ifs.

Well, good thing Davidson did cough it up and we weren't 1 and done as Big East Champs losing to a 13 seed!
What's the point? And you wonder why people rag on you for all of your Tom Crean man crush. At every opportunity you get you try to tear Buzz down while defending the Bronzed Beast to death. Guess what? We beat Davidson. And then Butler. And then SMOKED the ACC regular season and tourney champ Miami. Got to the Elite Eight. All with 0 players being drafted by NBA teams. Meanwhile the man you have a constant hardon for took his 1 seed with 2 top 5 picks and couldn't even make it past the Sweet 16 at It's Indiana, It's Indiana! Have fun with unemployment Tommy.

Just like a handful more field goals this year would have had us at a 5-7 seed in the NCAAs.
This is the nature of the game... it's not news nor is it unique to Marquette
I wonder if there's a guy on the UCLA boards who points out that Missouri's defense was pretty porous at the end whenever someone brings up their 1995 Championship.

A complete collapse by Missouri who led big in that game and then gagged badly in the last 7 minutes of the game. UCLA was extremely fortunate to win that game, and most honest Bruin fans know they were given a gift...not just with that play but how Missouri collapsed having been in control for most of the game until letting UCLA go on a 15-0 run.
That % of yours keeps getting higher. What's it at now, about 65%...higher?

Scoop represents about the most fanatical 1% of Marquette basketball fans. Buzz isn't getting much criticism from the other 99%. Not saying they are happy with the season but they don't care as much and don't fall victim to the "what have you done for me lately" fallacy.
Buzz is just fine where he is. Nothing to see here folks.

No, I didn't trade user names. The mods have shown they take action when that happens.
There's always a level of luck involved; it's sports. Buzz did say they were lucky. You continue to harp on it a year later. Makes one wonder.

This is uncalled for...seriously. Very tacky.
Monday, Tampa Tribune suggests Buzz interested in USF job but it is unconfirmed.
Would not like to see him go but then again if he is not happy good luck to him. We should not try to keep discontented employees. If the salary reports are true, he is paid very well and I think a number of people went out on a limb to bring him in. I can not imagine MU is a bad place to work so this does not appear logical. ::)
Hunt can't do a decent, timely story about MU all year but can rush this out there?

USF would be at least a $1 million paycut.
1. I doubt Buzz wants to go out on a season like this.
2. I doubt he wants to go to a school in the middle of nowhere, where no one has ever cared about basketball (okay, since Barkley...I think they also had a #1 seed in the late 90s). I worried about the Oklahoma job, and Texas A&M, and Arkansas. Even SMU. I don't see Auburn.
3. I think the fact that we have a new President and AD coming in make me feel better about keeping Buzz. I can't imagine they will bring in someone who doesn't have a good relationship with their most visible employee and the man who runs the topic #1 in every donor meeting.
4. Missing the NIT has to have cooled the Buzz market considerably. It would be foolish for Buzz to make a move now when his stock is the lowest it's been in years and he has good recruits coming in.
5. Hunt is a worthless troll who knows less than most people on this board.

Imagine Holy Cross doesn't cough it up in 2003? Crean ends up with zero NCAA tournament wins at Marquette and is fired after his 5th or 6th season. And instead of defending him from the ever growing lynch mobs on the Indiana boards you would have a much smaller audience on the Eastern Kentucky A&M State Teachers College message boards. Sigh.

Pointing out how thin the line is.....lots of things get pointed out here....some 6 years later....never seen you care about those....makes one wonder
Buzz's stock value is still at a very high level. Schools chasing coaches look for overall body of work and they will be knocking on his door, whether we like it or not.

Holy Cross didn't cough up that game. You still like making stuff up....picked 5th or 6th....finished 8th or 9th.....you're on a roll.
MU led for 34 minutes of that game with its biggest deficit of 4 points with 12:55 remaining in the game. It was a nip and tuck affair, but let's not pretend MU was down 34 minutes of the game or that Holy Cross was up in the final minute and began an implosion (started, to MU's credit by hitting some big shots). Was MU fortunate or lucky to win that Holy Cross game....yes sir. Said so then, will say so again now. Luck is involved in many sports outcomes, its just when someone says it here about a Buzz coached team it is taken as an act of deflowering him.

Just read this article and says Buzz is reportedly interested. I don't know why this seems to happen every year. It's really annoying and with the crappy year he put together I didn't think we would have to hear about it. If he isn't happy he should leave and save the theatrics every offseason. Hopefully if he does leave, he can convince Derrick and Juan to go with him ;D

The USF job would be a major step backwards. Especially considering the conference next year is going to be awful without Louisville and UCONN losing Napier and Cincy losing a ton.
What did Hunt do besides provide a link to a story listing Buzz as a target for the Auburn job? Is it not his job to report news? This is a newsworthy nugget of information. Frankly, I think Auburn could be a sleeping giant program with resources, recruits and limited expectations.

It makes a lot of sense. Buzz is expensive. Auburn is a football school. They are going to invest and put money in their football program long before basketball. You always seem to disagree with me without giving any explanation.
This is assuming that Auburn has finite resources, and therefore they must choose between supporting the two sports. I don't believe Auburn, or any state school in the SEC, has any hesitation to spend money to get what is needed.

So you're on record that we lucked out against Holy Cross. (I actually don't think we did). But if we lose that game, TC = Mike Deane, gone in 5 or 6 years with no NCAA wins and only two DWade led appearances, and Indiana's loss is Lamar or Eastern Kentucky's gain.

The economics of college athletics is not a zero sum game. And much of the financial means comes directly from booster support. There are many examples of schools having success in multiple sports.
Anyone else wonder why Buzz is even being mentioned in the USF search? Where are the other coaches? Every single job that opens up in America seems to mention Buzz. Why?
Anyone else beginning to think that Buzz actually entertains these offers? Obviously I don't know about other programs, but is Jay Wright always mentioned in school openings? Is Hoiberg?

Buzz has no agent, so he fields all inquiries himself. He's said in the past that he'll take a call from anyone just to keep a finger on the pulse of where he stands. My guess, Buzz gets a call, takes it, feels USF out on how serious they are, and voila the Tampa Tribune is saying that Buzz expressed interest. I'll have to hear a few more murmurings before I give it any thought.
