I am assuming the Duane Wilson redshirted himself because he felt he needed some development. That being said, I wonder if he will be ready for primetime. We know what we have in Derrick and to some extent Dawson.
Is a JUCO PG a possibility? Are there any out there?
PG doesnt seem like a position that is that hard to find in college bball. At least it doesnt seem that way.
Unless Duane has told Buzz he wants out, I doubt if we would go after another PG.

According to 4ever Duane is transferring. Of course this is the same guy who said that Looney was a Duke lock so take it for what it is worth.

4ever said Duane was transferring? I missed that. Link, please - or if you're out there, Doc, please explain. Thanks.

Whoa, whoa dude! I haven't dug in your chit, so don't start messin' with mine. When and where did I ever say that? Really now, put up or shut up. Rumors fly all over the net, but, they were not started by me nor were they perpetuated by me.
As for Looney, every bit of info posted here by me, came, and continues to come from the horse's mouth or a fellow stable member. You can choose to believe all, part, or none of it. My relationship goes back now 8 years. How's that for credibility?

It seems like a lot of people have written off Duane since we haven't seen him all year. I'm still hoping he can play 25 mpg next year>

It's not easy to find a great PG.

The irony is that Marquette has a tradition of superlative PG play.

No Nick next year and since Buzz won't play freshmen he won't see the court until 2016.
If we do indeed want to sign a JUCO PG, we've got from April 16 to May 21 to find a good one.
young dawson is good enough and he has proven himself when given minutes we could use extra but definitely let the kids play

I would never make a guarantee that I know what's going on in a teenager's mind.
I haven't heard one way or the other for months, but I also haven't seen my athletic department friends for months so I have no insight anymore.
If Duane Wilson transfers I will video tape myself eating a shoe.
You guys are crazy.
If Duane were to transfer, he sits again next year.
Duane said on twitter a couple of days ago(talking to a friend) that he was going to be at Marquette for the next 4 years.....

you forgot the elite "game changer", Derrick.
I think Derrick will provide the type of Senior leadership next year that was missing in the present campaign. I also believe that he will be a solid backup and will be a solid contributor in that role.
As much as I hate the term "buzz-cut", Buzz does have a history of "addition through subtraction" with this program. The best move would be to have Derrick set up with one of his coaching buddies (preferably one who has high regard for perimeter passing) for a transfer to a lower level D1 school which enables Todd, Duane, Dawson to provide scoring and penetration from the PG position.
Derrick IS improving... he had his 4th fast break pass/assist of the year against Xavier!

In Duane Wilson we trust! (or at least I trust) I was crushed when he couldn't play this year because he obviously showed a great deal of excitement at coming to MU.
He and Deonte will be big next year. They both have the drive and desire that fuels teams to perform at a higher level of intensity, something that we lacked this year.
If Duane can somehow take charge of the starting PG position it will put Derrick in a better situation to help us like he did a year ago off the bench. That's my dream anyways. Maybe overly optimistic but I am on board the "Duane Train".

This is NUTS. Buzz is going to encourage his starting PG to transfer. Why, because the fans don't think he is good enough. Look I've been saying all along that Derrick's minutes are going to come down a lot next year and by the conference season he might have lost his starting role. That said he will enter the season as the starter and still be getting 15 mpg even if he loses the start. And he's going to leave MU and so he can sit at a new school for one year and then play one year. Not gonna happen. Derrick will graduate from MU. He can be a valuable teammate. He just can't be the 30 minute a year man. I swear the ideas people suggest ?-(

Gardner, Wilson, Otule and Thomas have all been criticized for not stepping up as leaders on the floor and they all showed significantly more desire to take charge and put the team on their back when needed and somehow Derrick Wilson is going to be that guy next year?
Please tell me this is a parody post. The only game winning shots Wilson has ever been a part of are the one's his defender beats him for the buzzer beater.

Speculation. he was Buzz's Jr. stud PG this year. Why do people assume that the leadership must come from Srs? Over the years, I have seen plenty of leadership come from guys who were not Srs. Why did he not lead this year?
Derrick Wilson, Buzz's pet, the PG getting 30+ minutes a game should have been a Leader this year--but because it is always about Buzz/Derrick, the blame is transferred elsewhere.
Regarding this thread--we do not need another PG from JUCO ranks. Then Buzz will have to Buzzcut two guys.
Give the keys to Du. Wilson and let him drive the car from day 1. Make Derrick Buzz's student assistant.

I still believe Du Wilson gets the pg nod. Many programs "hand the key" to a freshman, which in reality Du Wilson will be a year older. Siva, Cotton, Paige, Robinson, Smart, Napier, Ennis, Johnson, Atkins, plus many others have all started at pg or seen the significant minutes at pg.

Which one of those guys played at MU under Buzz? Maybe on other teams they start, but i don't think for Buzz that they would.
I don't think anyone expects Derrick to be a leader with his play. I think he is great verbal leader. He has the attitude and the charisma to lead his peers.
Unfortunately, in basketball, you need your leader to be able to back it with play. You need him to be the guy who takes the game winning shot.
If we could but Derrick's attitude and leadership into Mayo's body, we would be golden.
If Derrick was truly going to be passed by both Duane and Dawson on the depth chart, I think Buzz would encourage him to transfer. He wouldn't want Derrick to waste his senior season being a benchwarmer. I don't think this is a reasonable assumption however. Duane or Dawson may get the starting nod, but they won't both pass him.
I don't think a juco PG is likely. However, if a dynamic senior wanted to Lockett transfer in, I think Buzz would find room for him.

OK, then why all the dumping on the seniors by some here for not being leaders? Garner backs it up with his play. He doesn't get the ball for the game winning shot. Now Jamil and Thomas you can make a case for. But Derrick and Anderson do not back it up with their play either. Neither of those guys will get the assignment to take the game winning shot. So guess what, we will only have one leader next year also.
He is not going to transfer and he will start. However, Duane will continually take more minutes away from his as the season goes on assuming he can stay healthly. Dawson is going to play very little.
I would hope Duane is playing at least 25 minutes a game by conference play.

I agree that he will provide the leadership that we missed this season. IMHO, he starts, but we will see more minutes from Duane and John off the bench.

I'm not sure I understand you're comment. I'm arguing that you need leadership skills and basketball talent to be a true leader. Davante had the talent but not the leadership skills. I don't think any of the seniors really had the leadership skills IMHO.
Derrick has the leadership skills. Mayo has the talent. Both are missing something. If we could combine them, they would be perfect. Maybe Burton could step up? He certainly has the talent.
