Excited for next year with these two guys.....tonight is yet another example of why you HAVE to ride your most talented players through thick or thin....everyone can agree Todd got out of the gate tonight awfully...historically that gets him yanked....Buzz stuck with him and again it paid off....Todd is just a guy like many players that needs time to get into a flow...and once in it...he's locked in.
Burton? What can you say? I posted a few weeks ago that he'd likely be an early entry candidate after junior year, and will be most exciting player at MU since Wade. Plays with such good rhythm, pace, feel...will be an absolute STUD...
As a Seattle native he reminds me of Kendall Gill (don't crucify me for that) when the Sonics had a serious run.

True, but none of it will matter if Derrick Wilson is the starting PG.
All the bball on today, and there wasn't a single PG as bad as D Wilson.
It felt like every time Burton got the ball, and he wanted to score, he just did. It was really fun to watch him play tonight. He will definitely get better defensively.
Mayo is Mayo. For every time he makes you want to rip your hair out, he does something that will get you out of your chair, fist bump the sky 10 times, and then pound your chest like you're Tarzan. At least that's what I did tonight... ;D

I generally agree that you ride your talented guys, but only to a point. We don't want this happening

Wait for the apologists. Burton just started "getting it" in practice two weeks ago. And Mayo started "getting it" 10 games ago.
Juan stole 10 minutes a game from burton and thomas stole minutes from Mayo. What a waste of a season. 2 players from this team will contribute next year and they went to the NIT. Buzz gambled on players he beleived in and failed miserably.
Mayo, Burton, Duane, Ahmed, Fischer, JJJ all give me reason to be excited.

All while essentially wasting Davante's senior year. Still feel it would have been wise to get Dawson 20 minutes a game in non conference play when it was so evident we were going to struggle offensively...saw in another thread a poster said Mayo, Burton and Derrick played GREAT tonight...Derrick was better than he's been the last 3 games, but still....just can't have a PG that scores 2 points in 31 minutes of play no matter what he brings on the other end..

Juan maybe. Jake earned his minutes.
Ners I can understand you not being happy with Derrick, but Dawson is a liabilty as shown by the charge he made in first half.

One bad play?
Teal? I honestly don't know if you're joking or not

That wasn't a good play..I'd agree...he should have just pulled up and hit his sweet mid-range jumper at FT line...but someone else here was critical of him shooting a wide open 3 at the 25 second mark of shot clock as being too early in the possession....
Dawson's a freshman..he got very choppy playing time all year. We've seen the liability Derrick is on the offensive end and FT line ALL year long for 30+ minutes a game...so I personally would much rather roll with a freshman with upside that can shoot the basketball than the alternative. Personal preference. Others have theirs. I didn't think Derrick would be as bad as he's been coming into the season...thought this team had legitimate Elite 8 talent/potential.
After hearing that buzz sat burton in the second half not because of foul trouble or injury but because he thought we were better without burton on the floor, I'm not counting on buzz making any astute basketball decisions next year.

agree with both of you. head scratching decision...

I've wondered about some of the decisions this year - but am totally lost after that bs.
Buzz probably knows more basketball than all of us combined - but that is just stupid - not to mention condescending.

Oddly in the Hunt blog...Buzz indicated he took Burton out due to defensive issues...said Xavier's perimeter guys were getting it into the "channel" (paint) to easily...ironically, Burton wasn't defending their guards.
Even if Burton's defense were an issue in 2nd half...which I didn't think it was....you simply can't take the guy off the floor..he's a freaking force on the other end...Buzz never should have pulled him as early as he did in 1st half either when he was rolling...unless Deonte asked out due to fatigue...which he probably wouldn't get as fatigued if he'd gotten used to playing 25 game minutes a night a long time ago..
TWITTA TRACKA!!!
some national props for the freshman...

Still amazed at Deonte Burton's transformation this season into a well-rounded smart decision-maker.
