Fittling ending to a tough season.
Todd Mayo- for a somewhat terrible first half he stood out as one of the three best players to suit up for Marquette tonight (Burton, Gardner).
My hopes and prayers for next season are that either Duane Wilson or John Dawson take the helm at PG and Buzz lets Mayo play 35+ a night.
I'm sorry Davante - you were under utilized and played exceptionally well even though you didn't see the floor as much as you should.
Jamil what could have been had you had the killer instinct. It's just not in your nature so I can't fault you
Buzz, I hope this season teaches you that experience doesn't equal talent. Nice to see you work Burton into the game plan as me and many others were screaming for it all year. It's too bad Todd, Davante and Deonte severely outplayed Jake, Otule and Anderson as those additional 450 minutes combined would have had our NCAAT streak continued.
Derrick - PG's at this level have to at least command respect. If you can't comprehend and improve upon that fact please give up your scholarship to someone who does.
Jake - for the love of God can you let it fly? You had 3-4 opportunities tonight when you reverted back to pass first shoot second mentality. You're an NCAA talent only when you shoot it.
What a season gentlemen. Would never have guessed that the combination of poor coaching, poor development and poor experienced leadership would have created a perfect storm.
Thankfully it's over.
I appreciate everyone on this forum. Whether we agree or disagree I know we all care about the product on the floor. It's been great getting to interact with you all after years of reading this forum.
Sorry if I personally offended anyone on this site.
See you in the NIT.
My ideal starting/most minutes lineup for next season
1 - Duane
2 - Ahmed
3 - Todd
4 - Deonte
5 - Fischer (after December), STJ (before december)

God that would be a tiny team! But I like it. I hope JJJ finds his way into the rotation.
For as awful as this season was, tonight showed why we can be excited for next season. Yea, it sucks we're losing an underutilized Devante, but can you imagine what a fully utilized Deonte can do for this team? Plus a 35+ minute Todd? This team can be scary good next season. Which is a feeling I did not feel after Vander left. We know this will be Todd's team and that is a good thing to know because Todd showed it tonight.

1. Why was Gardner under utilized?
2. Why was Burton not fully realized?
3. Why did Mayo not see 35 minutes a game?
If Buzz could honestly answer those questions I'd be more than happy to give him a pass. I'm guessing I'd here platitudes and passive/aggressive explanations rationalizing these three questions away.
Forget the Wilson/Dawson debate for a minute. I've never been a proponent of that argument. My three questions stand and I believe the excuses that follow mean the difference between the NCAA and the NIT.

Word out of the Al is that Duane has a long way to go to be ready to play at this level. D-4 Wisconsin ball is a long way from Big East ball...great athlete, good shooter, but has a lot of strength he needs to acquire....should be interesting to see how it plays out next year...and I sure as hell wouldn't count on Buzz starting a freshman in Ahmed - good as he may be - doubt he'll come anymore game ready than Burton did this year....and Burton couldn't get starting role till tonight..
Next year we may not make the NIT. Who replaces DG? ST is hurt or something. MT class= no upperclassmen.
Rebuilding year and even with 2 great classes back to back we don't seem as consistent in development as other teams

I looked up an old thread earlier today--Davante, in an interview on BE media day, says Dawson is better than Duane Wilson.

I promise I'm not baiting you into an argument (as I'd like Derrick to go back to 10-15 off the bench), what are your thoughts on PG then? Dawson? Todd?

This was true in December. From what I've been hearing he has been doing well this semester. Wouldn't have replaced Derrick, but probably would have gotten more minutes than Dawson does.
I've mentioned this is other threads. Anyone who thinks Derrick Wilson won't start (and probably lead the team in minutes played) is setting themselves up for major disappointment. Buzz will look to him heavily for senior leadership.
I also think Mayo continues to come off the bench next season because we have no other proven scoring options in that regard. We're going to be awfully inexperienced next year and the team could go so many ways. If any of the proven guys get hurt, things will get really interesting.

If you truly believe this despite our starting shooting guard and starting point guard's entire game than they should suspend your posting ability indefinitely.

Honesty I am not upset with Jakes performance. He his his first shot and he really only passed on one open 3 the entire game. I put that blame on Buzz for not running sets to get him open. I was not too fond of Jake earlier in the year but he had a really nice 2nd half of the season.

+1
Jake serves a purpose by just being on the court. A Xavier player never left his side and was constantly taken out of the defense. When Jake had the ball he often drew double teams...which made me laugh
Need a JUCO to take Juan's spot or something along those lines.
Need a JUCO late season pick up special ala DJO.
