Title: Good effort
Post by: ChicosBailBonds on March 13, 2014, 10:52:06 PM
Good effort, glad to see Buzz starting Burton.  Didn't get to hear why he did it, but glad he did it.

Take the NIT bid.

How come he didn't sniff the floor the last ten minutes?

Baffling to me how your best offensive player of the first half fails to see the court during crunch time.  Doesn't make sense to me.

Burton?  He did play in the last 10 minutes.  Not that much, but he did play.

He was injured. Just got off phone with friend who was at game

Should've played more down the stretch.  Hard to question that unless he was injured.  He and Mayo were the only "leaders" tonight.

Only reason I can think of is maybe free throw shooting...but obviously that back fired. Close game, couldn't overcome. Hopefully Jamil has a good game to end his career in the NIT.

OK, I deserve the semantics on this one.  But seriously, how is THE guy who could get his shot off any time he wanted not on the floor during crunch time?

....Or he was injured as others have just said. Makes sense then.

Could not be more impressed by Mayo and Burton tonight.  I hope they elevate their games and become the "leaders" that the team clearly lacked this season.

I'm excited for next year, burton and mayo can lead this team back to tournament. At the same time, I'm incredibly disappointed with buzz this year, deonte burton should've been receiving big minutes from the start and allowed to develop. With as well as he played tonight it could've been ever better, same goes with JJJ and Dawson but now I'm just beating a dead horse.

Yeah he played 25 seconds in the last 5 minutes. Didn't look injured. Buzz just needed Derrick's offense at crunch time.

Don't know...injury or maybe just part of this cosmic year.  Not Buzz's best, even the most diehard Buzz supporters I think would admit.  Strange all year long.  I think there is a lot of talent on this team, Mr. Burton showed much of it tonight....why these guys didn't play more is odd.

Hopefully the future is as bright as I think it is and kids stay, don't transfer, etc.  Just an odd odd odd year.

i think, based on his play the last few games, it is evident he did develop.

Whether Burton was injured or not he left the game because he was starting to force things. I think his last three possessions were a walk and two misses.

Agreed, Please transfer that into a few NIT wins

Jamil Wilson is the guy that really disappointed the most.  Others have said it many times, and I don't like to generalize about what's going on in people's heads, but he just didn't want to be the man tonight.  He had his chances and continually passed off rather than attacking.

He did develop but this is a guy that averaged 12 minutes a game this year, that to me is inexcusable for a guy with his abilities

He is a lot like me when it came to wrestling. Talented but super weak mentally

I thought the same thing, really what is it with that guy.  I pull for everyone on this team, but BUZZ seems to have a thing with getting him on the court

I submit that it was maybe not so much buzz as this team being a Rubix cube he just couldn't figure out. I know that's on Buzz, but it's a confusing team...one that's tough to decipher when so many players were so inconsistent..not just game to game...but half to half. How to explain first half Mayo tonight (God awful) to second half Mayo (possible first team all Big East)? Or Jamil, who can look like a future pro one game and a future corporate executive the next. Even Burton, who I believe could be GREAT, making the normal freshman mistakes In spurts, but one of our best players in others. Buzz played who he thought he could count on consistently.

Tough year for sure. Plenty of "blame" to go around.

Edited - So otherwise he looked like Jamil...but he did manage to score 23 points on 9-14 shooting...you WANT Burton forcing shots...it isn't a bad thing in any way, shape or form...

It was an entertaining game. They didn't win, but they played well and it was never frustrating to watch them...OK, maybe for 2 FT attempts!  :D

I've tried real hard to stick up for Buzz much of the season, but it's been real difficult.

I was totally flummoxed when he brought back a limping Derrick in the closing minute with the team taking the court on offense!

Take the NIT bid.

If offered can we turn it down? I thought there was a rule that a team has to accept the offer. None the less we should go. I think we found our go to guy (burton) for next season barring any surprises over the summer. I hope Buzz has his first team with 13 scholarship players next season... now that would be something.

There's a rule you can't turn down the NCAA bid, a result of Al turning it down.  I'm not sure about the NIT to be honest.

You do not have to go to NIT. But I think it is dumb not go. Even Kentucky took the bid. Did it hurt them? NO

derrick takes the court after not being able to shoot the freethrows=understandably, but burton was hurt??  what did he do, hurt himself taking a wizz at halftime?  not faulting deonte at all, but ya think there would have been some news about it during the game as he had 1/2 our points up to the point he left the game.  where was erin andrews?  never mind...
