Title: Your Starting PG
Post by: nyg on March 04, 2014, 10:59:22 PM
0 for 2 from field
1 for 4 from free throw line
1 point
3 assists
3 turnovers
5 fouls
Got schooled by Cotton, just like Thames, Carson, Starks, etc. Buzz's defender of all great men.

1) Walked the ball up with 8 seconds left in regulation like nothing happening.
2) Up one, he traveled when no one within 10 feet of him.
3) Fouls Cotton on inbound play. Ball game.  (Can't put full blame on Jake, at least he hit two big threes)

Been nice to the young fella, but this was just brutal.  Can't be another DIV I pg like him.

Knew this year would be testy, but if he plays next year, it will be a long year.

Devastating for the team after that comeback.

Blame buzz. He is who he is. Average backup PG.

I've never been more disappointed in a player. I honestly thought he'd fill in well this year. I think it's fair to say he's cost MU quite a few games this year.

There were several other instances where Derrick would make a pass and then actually take his man into the MU player that he just passed to.

I wish Buzz had Derrick on a shorter leash just as he does the other players.

This drives me nuts. He always takes that extra second, or extra dribble before making the pass. Makes it tough for the offense to flow, and negates most scoring opportunities for the guy receiving the pass.

I challenge anyone to find a D-1 PG who garners as many minutes with DWil's production.

MU fan, your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to park your butt and the butts of any associates you choose at any sports book in Las Vegas with 30 or 40 screens and watch every college basketball game (including the NIT) from now until a NCAA Tournament Champion is crowned, and find one point guard worse than Derrick Wilson.  As always, should you or any of your team or associates pass out or get kicked out of the casino for drunken disorderly conduct, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your bar tab, your identity, and your Marquette transcripts.  Good luck and don't feel bad if you fail.  This could be the most "Impossible Mission" of all time.

Agree with everything except I thought he was not schooled by Cotton (5-16 from the floor) and in fact played brilliantly on defense, that horrendous foul to end the game notwithstanding.

On offense, saying that he makes it 4 on 5 is generous to him.

+1.  Spends way too much time dribbling and setting things up, which really just allows the defense to settle into its matchups.   If you watch a lot of point guards, they aren't dribbling nearly as much - make a pass, move (ideally away from the ball), make a play when you get it back in 2-3 passes since the defense had to respond sooner and more often.

The thing about Derrick last night that drove me crazy was the end to the first OT. He dribbled the ball up lackidasically with no urgency, as if we had all the time in the world. I'm not sure if thought he had more time, or didn't know the score, but that was poor PG play. I hope Buzz chewed him out for that one
