That we just needed to win 2 out of the next 3 and win 1 in the BET. So what happened?
We lost one, we just needed to win 2 out of 3 correct? Why is everyone giving up. This game was up for grabs until an awful awful awful call killed us.
I haven't given up.

Please please don't blame this game on that call. If you want to go there, an awful awful call on Arcidiacono at the 14 minute mark gave him 2 fouls and he didn't play the rest of the half. Bell was out as well...arguably their two best players and we did nothing with those guys on the bench.
It was a 7 point call
For the record I thought this was a must win game otherwise the team needed to win the BET.
That's exactly what I've been thinking. Today was a rough game sure, and there's a tough turnaround to Providence but I thought we all knew we were going to lose this game (admittedly not in as embarrassing of fashion)
That was my feeling a copuple of days ago, but the Georgetwon win barely moved us up on the radar. We need 4 more wins. Providence, St. John's and two in Big East tournament.

How many points did Nova leave on the bench by having to put Arcidiacono there because of his second foul, plus he would have had 2 foul shots?
Buzz should not have gone after the ref in that fashion...his own team had to hold him back. Dumb move. Was it a bad call...yup. Did he make it worse...yup.

This game was never up for grabs. Marquette is NIT bound unless we win BET tourney.
Win the next 3 and they are in.

Nope. Not a chance. MU needs to run the table now. ZERO quality wins, ZERO.

I think I'd bet my board life on Marquette not getting in under that scenario.
how the hell was it a 7 pt call? really?
Even then MU still scores in garbage time and still would have lost by 10.

The problem is not that we lost. It is how we lost. Some fought, some were confused and some just didn't show up. Not showing up deserves a pine bench. The rest you work for the next game.

It wasn't. Ended up being a 5 point play. Don't get the T and it may have ended up being zero points.

ref gives the to, mu gets the ball and scores, potential 7 pt swing

Lots of ifs, especially for a team that shot 40%.....but if we're going that route he should have said potential 9 point play....MU comes down, shoots a 3 and is fouled in the act of shooting. ;D

nah, De Wilson would have driven to the hoop, have a defender with 3 feet and throw up ugly layup that does not even hit the rim... still a 5 pt play :)

joking right?
Fans always over react on the negative side of things. I am not confident they can win the next 3 but doing so would get them in the discussion and I predict they get in. What did you predict as mu's seed last year vs what they actually got?
I've not given up. This wasn't a must win, but it would have been enormously helpful to have it as a W on the resume.
If our next loss is in the BET championship game, I feel good about our chances.

well assuming the next 3 are wins, that's providence, st johns, and providence again? Then a loss to probably Creighton in the next round. Not getting in with that.

This is right. No way to know what's going to happen, but if they did in fact win the next three, they'd be right there.
If they play like today, PC will kick their ass.
Win 3 and I'm not too confident. Win 4 and we are in without a doubt. RPI would be estimated at 42 with one bad loss.
Win the next 4 or win the tournament. But just to be safe might as well do both ;D
Put a fork in it. We're done.

It wasn't the call that killed us: it was the lack of defending the three and the fact that our bench outscored the starting five (39 to 17). Heck, Hilliard alone outscored the starting five (26 to 17).
Defense has not been stellar this year but it's the offensive futility that is frustrating.
Play this way versus Providence @ the Doughnut...play this way vs. a bubble SJU team that almost beat this Nova team (they lost 57-54) and MU loses. Every time.
It's been an up and down season, almost a W-L-W-L pattern.

When you start almost every game down by 18+ points from 3-point range and down 30+ points in backcourt scoring, it's such an uphill climb.

I can remember Al going after the refs; dumb move yes, and we lost the game because Nova is the better team. It's all part of the this seasons frustrations. To get into the tournament we have to win the BET. I have yet to see a game where Jake, Gardner and Jamil put it all together in the same game. The way we have played this year I don't think will do that. Next year I hope the new comers are as good as their star ratings.

Same here
We'll see. If Xavier drops their last two (@ SH, vs Nova) and we win our last two, we'll still get 3rd place in Big East - and I don't believe that wouldn't count for something.
Win one game in the BET and all of a sudden we've won 8 of our last 10, finished 3rd in conference behind two top 10 teams, and will be pretty hard to be ignored despite what our RPI looks like.
I never thought we were gonna win yesterday's game, so my outlook on the remainder of the season and our bid chances have not changed.

I didn't think we could win yesterday's game either, but I thought the team needed to in order to have any chance of an at large bid.

Neither did I, but not even showing they could hang with a Nova club to til the end wasn't a good look for MU and the NCAA committee (if they even ARE looking in our direction).

So you don't think 21-13 with an RPI between 40-45 would get us in? Because that's what winning 4 and losing in the BET final would give us. We'd be in.

Considering that would likely come with a win over Creighton/Villanova, that would get them in.
Haven't given up. Win 4 in a row now, or win 3 in a row in NYC. Those are our options.
I prefer to do both.
I'm on board with the outer pouch thinking. Marsupials knows how to stay warm. That Xavier loss clearly helps.
Lots of things can happen still. But if the dust settles and we're three behind the two would-be NCAA championship contenders, our RPI becomes less damaging. And added to the 8 straight appearances, recent Sweet 16 and Elite Eight track record, I don't think MU can be ignored.
Frankly, with our schedule (granted we lost every meaningful NC game, with many winnable) I don't know why MU trails the other "Bubble Watch" teams in the conference for consideration. Currently GU, PU, XU & SJU are all seen as better NCAA bets than MU. I don't get that. The noted Eastern/ESPN bias sure seems to be working for some conference brethren.
That said, the NIT is not the end of the world. We were no tournament worthy for much of this season. Tough to swallow I know, because many Scoopers have never been to "that other" tourney, or worse, no-tourney land in their fanatic history. Life's a beach. Seashells and balloons.
