How can DG only get 21?
He's the best player we have...shot 3 of 6...50%...was having a hard time freeing himself to get open...but when that is the case...it sure should make our perimeter game more available...
Think it is inexcusable no matter how you slice it for DG to get just 21..
IIRC, he didn't play at all during the last 8 minutes. Looked like Buzz threw in the towel and shut him down. So, he played 21 of the first 32 minutes. If it had been close, I am guessing he would have gotten 26-27. Or about normal.
Maybe Buzz enjoyed watching both Wilson's, Anderson and Otule shoot running floaters like they were trying to break the glass while giving up open 3's on the defensive end.
Perhaps he needed footage for an instructional video he's releasing titled "The Art of the Brick"

Perhaps that was the case...but again think he sat the first 4 minutes of 2nd half...just not sure we can continue to start a lineup that features 3 of 5 guys who really struggle to score.
I am to the point that I would start Burton in place of Jamil. Burton makes some mistakes, but I rather lose with freshmen mistakes vs senior mistakes.
I would start Burton over Juan. I've said that before. When Davante comes in for Chris and Mayo comes in for Burton, bring Taylor or Juan in for Jamil.

I think Burton should be playing more, but I'm not at that point yet.
Here's my take - If Jamil's first shot is one going at the basket with force then I'd let him play. If he shoots his patented one handed turnaround fade away while being double teamed then I'd bench him immediately.

This, no brainer. JA is a sub.

My favorite is the one handed fade away after the defense had to switch n he is being guarded by someone 6 inches shorter!!!!! ::)
Avante ain't got the whole game, hey?
I was disappointed by Gardner yesterday. I think he gave up very early in the second half. If you watch the tape, he is just standing around on offense. He wasn't posting his guy up. He wasn't fighting for position. I think he got tired of not getting the ball and just stopped trying.

Villanova fronted him a lot with weak-side shading. Their perimeter defenders would sag off of Derrick and then rush at him when he picked up his dribble. Because they were not afraid of being beat off of the dribble by anybody, they were very aggressive on the perimeter players. So, aggressive perimeter defense, combined with fronting the post, combined with Buzz teaching his guys that if they can't see the post player's number, he isn't open.....
How often have you seen a MU perimeter player throw a pass to a post player being fronted? Not very. Just another thing that has been successful in the past (S16, S16, E8, 60-30 Big East Record) not working this year.

Yep, this starting line-up buried us yet again or at least put us at a disadvantage. Nova was not playing very well to start the game, and we let them off the hook by coming up empty handed time and again on the offesnvie end. That line-up used to be serviceable for the first 4 minutes, but with J. Wilson MIA, that line-up is absolutely horrid. I'd be shocked if Buzz has the same line-up against Providence and St. Johns (you can wear Providence down by making 1-2-3 man substitutuions without having that starting line-up in at any one time--or very sparingly).
