I know it's tough for some to swallow, but we're in fact still relevant in the Big East, sitting in third place with a shot at a tourney invite. That being said, here's a look at some big games this week in conference.
Sunday (today):
Providence @ Butler: I smell upset. A Butler win would put Providence at 7-8.
Tuesday:
Xavier v. St Johns @ 6:00. If St. Johns win, and we win on Thursday, we hold sole possession of 3rd place in conference. If Xavier wins, and we win on Thursday, we're two games clear of a very good St. Johns team making it less likely that we'll face them in the 4-5 game in the BEast tourney. When the buzzer sounds, X will have 10 losses or St Johns 11 losses.
Thursday:
Marquette v. Georgetown: Gtown is on life support with a 7-8 conference record and 11 total losses on the season. They'll be looking to avenge a loss in D.C. and in doing so, survive
Friday:
Providence @ Seton Hall: Providence is mired in one of those unpleasant weeks in which they cannot enhance their tourney resume, but can play themselves out of the tourney with two road games against Butler and Seton Hall. Providence loses both of these and they're toast--very possible. Lose one and they're on the outside looking in for the time being. Nervous times in Providence.
Saturday:
Creighton @ Xavier: X could have 11 losses by the end of the week. They're running into an absolute buzz saw down the stretch. After Creighton, they're on the road against SHU, then wrap things up at home against Nova. Nervous times in Cincinnati, too.
Sunday:
Marquette @ Nova: 'nuff said. Let's make it a monster week.
Yeah, just looking at this Gtown would be a huge win.
Pull off the miracle and beat Nova as well and its monumental.
