Chris was the difference in this game. He might not be a good coach and people might think he is not a good coach (looking at scoop before the post game?). He believes in people and it is all about people, he does not care what people tweet about Derrick, he does not care what Mike Hunt or anybody thinks, he believes in Derrick. He knows Derrick can't shoot or make free throws he understands that, but when the game was on the line he gets a layup and then even though he can't hit FT's he hits one ......

Considering Dawson played a nice 11 minutes of uninterrupted ball today...yet couldn't sniff a minute in the 2nd half or overtime....yea....I'm with you. We'll likely finish 2-2 from here on out, and then probably 1-1 in Big East tourney. Head to the N.I.T. and make quarterfinals...
Try to enjoy the ride people. he's our coach and he ain't leaving anytime soon (i hope). still lots of basketball coming up including Georgetown in a few days. there's still hope.

I like Dawson and expect him to be a good player for MU, but he gave away as many points as he scored... he made a bucket, and then his man scored on him. He gets turned sideways very easy and his man is gone. Not sure what game you were watching,

I've mentioned that Dawson got beat off the dribble some today...but it happened a lot with Derrick defending as well. I'm not sure if for some reason it was part of the defensive game plan today to funnel their smalls toward Otule/Jamil..or DePaul just ran really good pick/roll action....but we seemed to have a lot of problems stopping penetration today - Derrick too.
Nonetheless, my take is that Dawson being on the floor makes 4 other guys on the team better on the offensive end...along with being an upgrade himself. What he individually yields on the defensive end...in my view would be less than the gains made as a team on the offensive end. Nothing I haven't said before of course..

Hell one disinterested beat writer and a half dozen, small market TV stations. This is easy compared to TC. That seat isn't hot yet, and the alumni still love him, but when they turn it's gonna be ugly.
Bottom line...this is Buzz's team so he must own it in every sense. He revealed in our adulation years past. He created this "monster" now deal with it. BTW his team was picked to win the conference.

Buzz isn't stupid. People are just people. If anything, MU fans are mild compared to most fanbases at bigger schools. If buzz left for greener pastures, I hope he understands that this team would be getting booed off the floor. He would be forced to play the higher ranked recruits like JJJ and burton. I don't think buzz wants that. I think he knows he has it good here.

Exactly. He is gets burned on almost every possession.
Obviously this is a tough season and not what anyone, including Buzz expected.
I'd say he's being true to himself with his DW stance but being disingenuous in saying he doesn't care what people say or tweet.

Sure, boo the students off the floor. Just how many schools does that happen at? Give me a break. If JJJ and Burton were as good as some of you seem to think, they would be starting. Outside of a few games in Nov/Dec. JJJ has not shown much.

Can't get my head around why he stays with him so obstinantely. DW even has trouble making lay ups much less free throws. I get you have to limit opponents baskets but you also have to score points to win games.

I listened to this and think this thread is WAY WAY off base. It was your typical introspective Buzz. The Derek Wilson comments were just Buzz explaining how he works, not emotional and lasted about 4 seconds. Nothing more and nothing new.
Stop trying to make something where nothing exists.
Apparently Derrick also told Buzz that if he wouldn't have called timeout at the end, MU would have won in regulation. Buzz responded with something like "maybe if you would have made 1 basket today, we would have won in regulation"

Thanks for the link. Interesting.
Derrick has been burned by faster and more talented guards on numerous occasions this year, so today was the same old. Buzz has no options yet, but with Duane Wilson next year, I am sure he and the staff will have to try Duane Wilson and see what happens. I think something exists in between the lines, but Buzz is loyal to Derrick and will not say anything in public to hurt the guy. The start of next year will be very interesting.
MU missed four, four frontends on one and ones today and three misses on "and ones". Brutal, along with the double teams leading to kick out threes. Just wish Buzz would bring up something about this factor as opposed to his usual"paint touch" things.

Agreed. Chris had a good game today, but did he make all those crunch FT's down the stretch? No--Ox did. Chris missed all 3 of his today. Derrick was a big time non factor today. The guy he spent most of the time guarding, Garrett, had about 26 points today. Derrick also missed his 2nd FT. Buzz goes out of his way to build up guys like those with his ridiculous Buzzspeak, and gives little to no kudos to others.
These two comments sum it up perfectly:
Kevin Oneil: They are playing 4 on 5
Some fan's 12 year old daughter: "Daddy, why isn't anybody guarding #12?"
And then there is Buzzspeak.

I think another bad part about Buzz comments was on Davante's two bad plays in his mind. Obviously that end of the game toss up was dumb but then he got on him for giving the ball to derrick and how that is statistically a bad move.
Ok? Wouldn't the actual statistically bad move be having a 47% free throw shooter in the game in the first place? But he says it's dumb that Davante (who 3 games ago vs Butler buzz got on him for dribbling around waiting to be fouled) found the open man when two guys were trying to force the TO. Not his fault that open guy can't make 50% on freebies.
Just don't get the inconsistency in building up the limited players and taking shots at the ones we need.

Most of the penetration when Derrick was in came when MU players switched on screens...and the DePaul guards blew by Todd, Jake, Jamil or Juan. If you're upset about that, I'd suggest blaming Buzz for telling them to switch.
They switched a lot less against Xavier, and Christon has plenty of trouble getting by Derrick. But if it's easier to blame Derrick than pay attention to the different strategies, by all means carry on....

Period, makes little sense I doubt he would start on Depaul but its Buzzes guy... So what can we say, no matter how many tweets or fans Boo Buzz gonna do what he want...
I listened to buzz post game. And he wasnt un happy he was happy, he gave a ton of credit to Purnell n the depaul kids and i agree. I saw great attitude n fight out of a team on a 10 game losing great credit goes to that staff. Buzz is a fighter and will always have a chip on his shoulder if no one is complaining he will still find something n always puts chips on his players to, its his nature. He was happy just drained. Wouldn't be the first time scoop has driven people away from MU ball.
Was at the game today, and there's always a different feel than when you watch it on TV. It seemed like we kept calling for Chris to come back on the court, and that's generally not something I do. He had some big buckets and was just disruptive enough when nobody else was on D.
Also just about lost my mind when Wilson hit what we thought was the game winner because we couldn't hear a whistle and didn't notice the timeout with all the commotion.
Is it me or does Davante look in worse shape compared to this time last year? Also, is Derrick that far off from Junior in terms of offensive fire power and assists - I dont think so. Vander definitely had a late season surge, but this team is about as good as last year without a clear goto.

Because he does the same thing as that other idiot did. Al magwire or something like that.
You treat each player differently. Some players need someone in their face, really pushing them every day. I was like that. I knew when I did something wrong and preferred the coach to stop practice and let me have it. Other players need praise and encouragement to bring out their best. He uses Davante as a whipping boy for a reason - and make no mistake, Davante knows exactly what is going on.

I think that is a question that needs to be asked of Buzz. Earlier in the year, he'd get him out of their in that situation, but for the last several wins, he has kept him on the floor - even when the other team is at the foul line where he could sub him out on offense. For some reason, he is keeping him on the floor now and it isn't helping the team.
I certainly agree with your point.
