I don't know if I'll get any flack for mentioning this but I'm curious if anyone has any insight.
When was the last time the women's bball team made the NCAA tournament and the men's team did not?
Our women's team (currently 18-7) had an exciting comeback win against DePaul (11-2 in BE at the time) last week and could be well on their way to the big dance with a strong finish to the season.
I hope I am jinxing this and both the teams make it, but there is a decent chance this could happen.
*We played DePaul a couple days ago, my bad
Wikipedia says the women made the tournament in every year from 1994-2000 except 96, as well as 04, 07, and 11. So the answer to your question is 2004. Looks like 2006 was the last year neither team made it (a definite possibility this year....Charlie Creme doesn't have MU in his women's bracketology yet)
Interestingly enough, reaching back to 1993, 2006 and 2001 are the only years when both teams missed the tourney. Before that it wasn't pretty.
OD- Men's team made the tourney in March 2006... lost to Bama in San Diego. Novak's last game in an Mu uni.

2004-2005 the men's team lost to Western Michigan in the first round of the NIT. In May of that year Marquette changed the nickname to Gold. It was an unpleasant semester.
