I buried this in the "Tickets Sales for Creighton" thread, but figure it's worth a thread...
This game is a rare chance to see Marquette play at home vs the NATIONAL Player of the Year with Dougie McBuckets. ((Not official, but he's the consensus runaway winner right now.))
When was the last time Marquette played the NPOY in Milwaukee?
I initially said 15 years ago (2/1/99) when a sub-500 MU team upset #4 Cincy with Kenyon Martin... but KM didn't win NPOY that season due to breaking his leg... he actually won it the following season.
Did Anfernee Hardaway win it? If so, that might have been the last time. Gary Payton?

Marquette played Cincy at home in 99-00 as well.

Great point, I overlooked the obvious... so it's been 14 years. I hope our next time will be sooner.
Just wanted to wish you all good luck tomorrow. I'm making the trip up tomorrow. I've been to plenty of Marquette games but have never rooted for a different team. Will be real interested to hear what people have to say me but I'm not too worried. Should be a tight game and hopefully Creighton comes out on top.
Did Kemba win NPOY?

there were quite a few Xavier fans near us in the nosebleeds on Saturday, we treated them well so not to worry, it's not like your a Cinci fan making the trip

As is the case with a vast majority of "visiting fan situations," don't be obnoxious, don't be an instigator and you'll have nothing to worry about.

As a Creighton fan you dont have to worry. The only time I yelled at opposing fans were Ohio St. fans because one of them was a complete tool and Jack Cooleys, mom because she wouldnt shut up the entire game.

What if I am a tool and also Jack Cooley's mom though? Am I basically SOL?

The only games I really act like this is Nebraska games because I can get away with it.
But I will make sure not to show up in a Tom Crean halloween mask.

Nah, one of your fans also has to pour a beer on me at a football game (Damn Ohio St fan) The Jack Cooley thing is more personal then anything, my dad coached against him when he was in high school and his mom was just as obnoxious then.

Phew, you're lucky beer tastes better in my belly than on somebody else. In all honesty not worried about fan interaction. From what I've heard from Jays fans throughout BE travel reception has been great. From past Marquette game experience if I'm not Rick Pitino then I should be fine. Its going to be surreal more than anything else.

Its a pretty cool experience. I did that the first time this fall when I went to go see Northwestern play at Camp Randall and with the exception of one a hole, as much as I hate to admit it the Bucky fans wernt that bad.

Didn't Kemba Walker win some version of a POY award? If so, he would be the last one.
How about Dwade? Did he get any NPOY awards?

He finished second to the Jimmer for NPOY, but Kemba won the BET MVP and NCAA's Most Outstanding Player. TJ Ford won it Wade's year, and I'm guessing Carmelo finished higher than Wade too.
Kenyon Martin in 2000 was the last time a NPOY played MU in Milwaukee.

If you were Rick Pitino, you would be spending table time at Porcini's.
Trivia question: Who was the best player from Omaha that we stole from the Bluejays?

Kerry Trotter.
MU played LSU and Pistol Pete Maravich in the finals or maybe the semi finals of the NIT in 1970. The Pistol was Mr. Points playing for his father and was the toast of Broadway. He never gave up the ball and scored like 35 a game as an average.
Dean the Dream Meminger and role player Jackie Burke put Velcro on the Pistol and won the NIT.

Honestly don't know, good question. Omaha doesn't have a ton of great talent locally and a lot of the best players struggle to qualify academically out of HS.
In 1977 fans got to see the NPOY at every home game ... Butch Lee
butch lee? obviously we didn't play him at home, but he was one helluva college baller

We do, but it's a crappier techno version of it for the last couple seasons. The old normal Streets version came across much better at the Bradley.

Invokes the mantra "don't mess with good." I can be a thousand miles away from the BC, but when I hear that song I still get goose bumps. So choice.

Marques Johnson won the Wooden Award in 1976-77. Butch Lee was the Final Four MVP in 1977.
