Title: after watching the game for the first time last night....
Post by: ecompt on February 16, 2014, 08:00:20 AM
I think Dick Stockton should retire. My God, was that an awful job.

He has a good voice, but definitely didn't bring his "A" game.

Quintessential broadcaster from a bygone era - great pipes. Unfortunately, whatever clue he had he's lost.

My favorite was when he went on and on about a great Otule basket - when Chris was on the bench.

Uh, Mr. Stockton, Marquette is in the light colored jerseys.

And OJ Mayo is in the NBA.  As this is a college game, there is no way he could be on the court.

Didn't he credit Christon for a basket that Jamil made?

That's understandable. They both wear number 0 and are non-traditional.

The only errors he made in the entire broadcast were who scored baskets, who was on the court, how much time was left, which team had the lead, the size of the lead, who recently had a season high, which team had the ball, how many fouls a player had.... :'(

I know this is much Fox as it is the announcers but why do they keep on saying Thomas had career highs?  He scored 20+ at South Dakota multiple times.

Is this normal for the statistics reset when you go to a new university?  I can agree with season highs but I don't get the career high stuff.  Last I looked South Dakota was in division one (okay barely maybe, it is technically is division one).

Marquette career highs

Dick Stockton is 71, not everyone stays sharp into their 70's.  He and Visser finally got divorced....for obvious reasons.  That was a few years back, maybe still taking its toll.

Cmon, while that was classic there is no way it topped

Jamal Wilson guarding Crispin

While Jamil Wilson shot over Semaj Cristain.

His "correction" was great too.. sounded absolutely puzzled.. "oh, I guess they're going to credit Gardner with the basket?!?!?!"

You guys better be careful of what you say about Visser. Kornheiser got a 30 day suspension from that paragon of PC, ESPN for commenting about Hannah Storm's attire.

There's a reason Boers and Bernstein give out the "Dick Stockton Excellence in Broadcasting Award".

Hint: You don't want to win that.

Doc,

I respect you as a man of medicine but I disagree about clipping coupons for medical work. I recently spoke with Donatella and Mickey about a good cutter for the scars on my back and butt.

Just don't get the work done at Sam's Club, then, or at a kiosk in the mall.
