I'm guessing I must have missed a thread/posts, but why the DNP against SH?
Ask Mr. Buzz.
Probably because Gardner, Otule, Jamil sand Juan played well and he's been really, really struggling lately.
Struggling? Thought he played great in recent games.

Ugh...the only game where he has played "great" is Georgetown. He has been OK in a couple games, but was pretty terrible against St. Johns and Butler.
We won. Who cares. If we're winning games I could care less who plays. We could play Riley Crean, Bubba Williams, Chad Alvarez and MJ's twin daughters and as long as we're getting a W I wouldn't worry about JJJ's minutes, STJ's minutes or anyone else's.

You are the one that brought up Juan. And Juan in the last nine games, has only hit double digit minutes in three of them. He is getting the time that he deserves.
Just like Taylor.
No need to argue fellas. Juan played well against SHU and earned his minutes that day. Only so many to go around. This isn't 3rd grade soccer and 11 getting playing time is silly.

ugh (sorry i couldn't resist)...i was just wondering if anyone heard anything pertaining to injury vs. buzz's decision. that said, if juan gets the time he deserves based upon in game results, stevie ain't gettin' the time he deserves. it was a great game by juan.

Why? Major surgery, non-linear recovery, lack of progression because of it, erratic play and minutes. Seems pretty straightforward.

Juan has some idea about D, offense another story, never seen a player particularly this year that can not make one jump shot, needs to help on the O side of the ball. 10 points from him a game would have been huge and made a difference on this team, to bad. Taylor really is a mess on the D side. Both will be a big part of next year, so they have the summer to figure out something about there weaknesses. Unless MU plays three guards next year with Fisher and Burton.
Derrick or Duane
Hill

Fisher

We have had three players this year that have had one outstanding game. Anderson, Dawson and Taylor. Maybe 4, if you count JJJ's 18 point game against a bunny.
I cringe every time I see Juan Anderson playing meaningful minutes. I'm sure he's a nice kid, but I don't see how he consistently helps the team win college basketball games.
If Taylor plays it means Gardner or Otule sits now that we are not using the twin towers lineup anymore. Seems pretty simple...If Gardner and Chris are not in foul trouble and playing well Steve isn't going to play much.
Juan can defend the perimeter so he will get minutes when we aren't playing 3 guards or backing up Jamil.
His minutes seem to be go up and down dpending on how Burton is playing.....
Jamil seems to think the right guys are playing......
Williams went back to his upperclassmen-dominated starting lineup and pretty much limited the bench to Davante Gardner (16 points) and Todd Mayo (11). Williams, who tried starting freshmen Jajaun Johnson and Deonte Burton to shake things up, said there was no significance to going back to the lineup he used earlier in the season.
"The rotation for us is whoever is producing," he said.
But Wilson noticed the difference. "This week in practice it was all about winning," he said. "I'm not saying the freshmen aren't good, but we've been here. We know what it takes to win.

Woulda been nice if they had known "what it takes to win" in 6, 7, 8 earlier games, no? It's not as if Buzz had been denying PT to this group (except Mayo sometimes).

Juan's D on Edwin was big in the first half against SHU. His long arms make the passing lanes difficult, and he works hard to deny the ball. He also hit the glass pretty well vs SHU. I'll take that Juan every game.

As well as a terrible shooting percentage despite being a big guy. Your forwards need to shoot at least 40% or they don't deserve to play.
Despite the ample playing time to be had up front next season, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Taylor transferred. Maybe that's why we're interested in Atwood.
Isn't it fair (if simplistic) to sum up MU's difficulties this year as being a result of having only two fairly consistent and solid two-way players (Mayo and JWil, warts and all)?
[Some would argue DWil as well (because of his ability to protect the ball and run the offense), but we don't need another debate about DWil.]
Having so many players who either are not yet (JJJ, Burton, Dawson) or never will be (Chris, Ox, Anderson, Jake) of a high major well rounded caliber creates all sorts of subsitution, match-up and flow problems for Buzz.

Agreed, to many weaknesses from to many players, so you have to watch the line-up as when I see Juan, Chris and Derrick in together, I cringe. Everyone is better if Jamil could be consistent, he won the Seton Hall game and has to be more aggressive on the O end, when he is passive, they basically have one consistent scorer Devante, Todd is way to inconsistent for
me. Has a hard time scoring on the road.

Would hardly call either fairly consistent as two way players. Wilson is not a good defensive player and takes many possessions off. Mayo also is very inconsistent.

Or maybe he'll have to "retire" due to his knee problems.
He had a serious operation and came back to soon. I doubt if he is completely healthy and the recent hard practices can't help matters. When he is healthy he is a very effective player for us. My sense at this point is that he won't be fully back to health until next season.

Exactly. At this point, someone has pretty much predicted every returning player to transfer.
And why do we think Juan is going to transfer? He's going to be a senior next year. Buzz loves the guy. He's not going anywhere.
I think sometimes people's "predictions" are based more on their hopes.

Yup, my brother is a sophomore and a lot of his buddies live on the same floor as Steve in Carpenter and he's been telling them that he's thinking of transferring. I've been hearing about this since before Christmas break when he wasn't getting a lot of playing time, but hopefully things change because we really need him next year.
I think nearly every college student thinks of transferring at some point, I know I did. And it's probably more intense for basketball players when you throw in the additional issues they have to deal with. Just because a kid says he's thinking of transferring doesn't mean it's a real possibility. College kids say a lot of things. We don't need to start a thread here every time someone hears something and a "rumor" starts going around. I know we've had our share of transfers in recent years, but I agree, this board's obsession with "transfer-watch" has gotten absurd.
That's why I didn't post about it back in December when I originally heard about it.

Strange? I'd use the word "unsurprising."
It's an Internet board. We're all a bunch of dopey fans. It's fun and interesting to speculate on stuff. Where else do we have to go to do this?
The only mistake we make sometimes is taking ourselves too seriously.
It's a fan board. It's basketball. It's supposed to be fun, an escape from real life.
So ...
Where is Steve transferring to ... and how many of the other guys will he take with him ... and which 4- and 5-stars will we replace them with?

My thoughts exactly
Given that Harris is still waiting in the wings and we're apparently recruiting Garrett and Atwood, it's not strange at all to speculate about who may leave.
I have never heard of any of these rumors about Steve leaving. So I dont know where you are getting your information from or if your brothers friend is a reliable source because I actually talk to STjr personally and that topic has never come up. Straight from the source himself...
See after the season what happens, around April 1-10, the 11th I think is spring signing day. Do not play a game and the word comes out, transfer, in Steves case it might be he needs a year
off and get his knee healthy, it does not look like he is exploding off the floor right now.

He is the key big next year as MU only will have frosh and Juan, and Juan is nothing to get excited about.

I'd be suspect of that rumor, considerin' the source and such.
So, to what dorm does he want to transfer?
He is not playing because of the injury and the loss of development because of the injury.
Oh, and the fact that there is a 6th year man ahead of him, a 5th year player ahead of him and a Senior who is one of the most prolific post scorers in MU history.
And all those guys will be gone next year. He will be a Junior and outside of Fisher and to a lesser extent Juan, there really isn't anyone there to battle for PT.

This is exactly right.
If the idea is to go somewhere to get lots of quality playing time, it's hard to imagine a place where that would be more true for him than Marquette.
All of what was said plus the fact that he would have to sit out another year.
I sure that I'm not the first to hear this rumor, but I'll be the first one with the guts to repeat it.
Next year, at semester break, Ahmed Hill will transfer out of frustration at being kept on the bench behind Dylan Flood who will be starting ahead of Hill because he is never of position on defense.
