Some nice defense, especially on Edwin. Lots of good non-box-score playing...with a few points to boot. Hope this is just the start....
Juan, 21 minutes, 6 pts, good defense. Freshmen, 16 minutes 0-6 from the floor, 2 pts, 3 to's. Buzz played it right tonight.
Agreed.
Defense wins games and they're playing better defense.
But defense that can't force turnovers or score the ball is pretty much worthless.
Agree, as I said in DH thoughts thread, best he's played in a while. Excellent defense, points were just an added bonus.
I really had high hopes going into the season that Juan would grow into the Lockett role this year... hasn't happened yet but I pull for the kid.
His D on denying Fuquan the ball in the first half was well done. He's got great energy and long wingspan to disrupt the passing lanes as well. Hope he continues it in his minutes.
I don't know what it is, but he is definitely playing with more confidence. Not sure if Buzz shackled him earlier in the season, but he is not just a guy on the court now. He is trying to make plays.
It was good to see Juan go to the hoop. Thought he played his best game of the year. He needs to look to score instead of immediately passing the ball off.
As a side note, why didn't Steve Taylor play?
It seems to me that Juan just needs to relax a bit on the offensive side of the ball. Watching his high school mixtapes he looked so smooth, distributed the ball seamlessly to teammates, and shot in rhythm. But maybe that is just the nature of mixtapes. It just appears that he hasn't found his comfort zone at the college level and everything he does on offense is rushed.
Seems like a great kid and definitely plays hard, so I'm still happy to have him.
Nice going by 'Renewal by Juan Anderson'.

I've thought that Juan biggest problem this year was that he was afraid to look to score. Once he was covered, he immediately
looked committed to get rid of the ball. Against Seton Hall last night he was definitely more aggressive. Juan's time had been cut back recently, and I think that that could have been a message to Juan from Buzz to commit to playing more aggressively on the offensive end of the floor.
The only reasons I can think of for Steve not getting out there is 1)maybe he wasn't feeling 100% due to illness or injury in practice, or 2) Jamil was having too good a game to take him out much.
Anytime Juan shoots a jump shot it's an absolute waste of a possession. He's not helping if he's shooting. The other stuff is a good bonus but he needs to never take a 3 in a marquette uniform again.
This year, perhaps. But last year he did a decent job of hitting that 'trail-3'. And MU is going to need it next year.
Am I the only one who remembers the 3/3 from 3 game? He has that potential to score he just doesnt feel like its his place to do it this year.
Juan has a decent outside stroke. He just lacks confidence right now. Hopefully he spends this offseason in the gym firing up a thousand shots a day. There are always minutes to be had for an energy guy who can hit from the outside.
Juan is going to be vital next year, especially early. Doing the arithmetic, he will be the frontcourt player with the most experience. If he plays the rest of the way like he did last night, (A) it will be good for this year's team and (B) it will bode well for next year. Just keep attacking, Juan.

Absolutely. Juan
can hit from the outside - he's proven that in the past. Last year, with playing time (13.0 mpg) similar to what JJJ (14.7 mpg) and Dawson (10.3 mpg) have been getting this year, Juan shot .286 from 3 -- better than both JJJ and Dawson this season. And yet people want to see JJJ and Dawson shoot more, but claim Juan can't shoot. ::)
This season, other than that one game, it seems either that Juan is struggling with a lack of confidence, or perhaps that Buzz has changed his role on the team to be less of a shooter and more of a distributor. I'd love to see Juan get back to taking those trailing 3s in rhythm.
