Huge win.
I'd give them the nod over us into the Dance.
Even though we gave them such a good game?
A strong St. John's team will help the gate at the conference tournament. The Big East needs butts in the seats, at Madison Square Garden.
SJU may very well make the tourney...they are better than advertised.
But if MU does not make it ... it won't be a choice between SJU and us.
SJU will make it or not on their own record and MU would not on their lack of a record.
Of course one could say (if SJU makes it and MU does not) and SJU beats MU at the Bradley center...that reversed it could have gone the other way....but it will still be just numbers reflecting the bigger picture of a failed MU campaign and a successful SJU one.
Having expelled all that hot air of the previous paragraph....I'm still hoping on a 6-2 or 7-1 finish and a little mercy from the committee.

The overtime loss to Penn St. is going to come back to bite them. But I do think they may likely end up in the tournament.
The March 8th game is going to be an important one for both us and St. Johns.

We got our butts handed to us at SJU, but their win over the BJs helps MU in the rematch.

We lose @ Seton Hall this week and it is a moot point. Then the only shot MU will have is win it all in NYC.

They are currently 26 spots ahead of us in the RPI, that was before tonight's win. We would have been better off if Creighton won that game.

I really don't care about RPI numbers. IMO it was neither better nor worse for us to have St. John's win. When it comes down to it all that matters is that we go out and win the games we need to from here on out. I assure you if we go 8-0 down the stretch and St. John's goes 6-1, we both get in. They aren't going to be comparing RPI numbers thinking, well we can only take 1 of them.

+1
Same goes for Providence, Georgetown, Xavier and to a lesser extent Seton Hall.

This is true, if we were to go 8-0 and they go 6-1. Though, that seems highly unrealistic to me.
I'm talking about the more realistic scenario of us going 5-3 and them going 5-2. Then it matters.

really? Seriously? There are at least 6 BEast teams you could say that about!!!
this is good for MU.
We need to have more "good wins" because we lost every possible "good win" scenario" in our non-conference games (yes, I know, except GW).
We still have both those teams at home, take care of bidness and it doesn't matter who won last night. Its been an up and down year, but we've been a fantastic home team. I'd say we take down SJU and short of them raining 20 3s on us, have a good shot at Creighton as well.

In the past we've been a fantastic home team. This year, we've been good, I wouldn't say fantastic. 9-2 looks good, but we've struggled in a few (much like the season).

Chicos, gotta give you credit for saying the Johnnies looked good back when they strung together their 3 game win streak. I was still doubting them, but you were right.
I too think they are on the right side of the bubble for the moment..
