Everyone likes a winner. We identify with them, want to be part of them, we cheer them on and feel elated in their/our success.
Losers disappoint, make us angry and provide frustration. All of those feelings we try to remove from our normal lives that are less than perfect. We look to our sports teams to fullfill our less than completely successfully lives.
But like us when we fail these are the times when our true friends pick us up and keep the faith that we can succeed. It is the same for this team. They failed, but like us, this is precisely the time they need our support, our friendship and our commitment.
The question is, are you there for them only when they win or are you there when they are down and need us most? I just bought my tickets for the Villanova game. If my wife and I are the only ones in the stands cheering for our Team so be it but I will not abandon this Team because they are flawed for I am too.
Give them hell Marquette. Do not give up the struggle. I have not.

Well said. I'm with you.

I'll be at the Villanova game too. For I live on the East Coast. Yall wont be alone!
Failure tends to be a prerequisite for success -- and makes it so much sweeter. Al Mcquire understood that in 1977. Buzz may or may not see that day but I believe he has the character, determiniation and the ability to learn and fight the good fight. That is what we look for and why he deserves our respect. He will make mistakes, like Our Team, but he will learn from them. That is character. That is Marquette. We succeed because we strive for it, we fight for it, not because of God given talent. They go to Kentucky for basketball or MIT for knowledge. We are proud that we went to Marquette. We had another talent. We are Marquette.
I was going of games before McGuire and so obviously I suffured through the Dukiet years. I wish we were having a better season, but it is not the worse I have seen in 50 years of following MU ball.
Without the bitter baby the sweet ain't as sweet!
That's great you are going! Who else out there is going? We need to show what Marquette character is. If not now when? If no you who?
Great post Class71. I unfortunately will only be able to make one more game this season (flying up for the @Depaul game). But I will be screaming at my TV for every single remaining game this year.
RING OUT AHOYA!!!
They need support at the DePaul game too. The road to success has more than one stop. Say hello to Chicago for me. Was at Northwestern blocks away from DePaul after my 4 years a MU.
I don't understand, its all about losing to Western Michigan in the NIT. The bitter with the sweet.
;)
Losing to Villanova and St. John's sucks.
But it beats losing to Western Michigan, TCU (twice), and UAB, and getting murdered by Louisville at home. 2004-05. The worst season of MU basketball I've ever seen.

Well said. I'm with you.
Me too.
You should join us in the game thread. One more clear thinking voice is always welcome.
I have season tickets and drive up from Chicago for each home game. I will be there Tuesdsy to cheer MU to victory over Butler. Go Marquette!
Good post.
We were there before we had a campus, before Al and with Ed Hickey, before the students were displaced to under the basket, before the Carillion and before the chapel, we are Marquette and we will overcome. I will be at Seton Hall wearing my badge of honor and supporting our team.

Even in the championship year, Al endured a lot of criticism. I can only imagine what it would have been like on Scoop after they had a 3-game losing streak late in the year. It was not a team a lot of us expected to win it all.
The comments on Neary and his 1 ppg average would have been off the charts. People would have been posting that we needed to start Rosey over Boylan cuz we needed the outside shooting.
Criticism should make teams stronger if they truly have character and I don't think a lot of people here have turned on the warriors. Just frustrated.

Good post.
See you in the crowd. 200 mile round trip to all home games for us.
I will also be at the Nova game. The Philly alum club usually has a pregame spot to drink and shoot the breeze. It will probably be at mcfaddens bar, located inside citizens bank park, across the street from the wells fargo center.
71, not sure which side youre on, but Nevada, I would love to talk about john's dawesomeness over a drink or two...or three.
Go, Marquette! My team, through the good AND the bad.
Happy to discuss just let me know where and time. Best part of opinions is we all have them but they are, as we all know, just opinions. Let's get a win!

If Al were alive today, I would love to ask him how he would have dealt with all the Internet stuff.

I was gonna say he'd probably just ignore it - but he was a pretty forward looking guy. Maybe use it as a motivating tool, as I guess Buzz probably does.

That would be a great question, and likely even a greater answer. Al, do you tweet? Who was your last text message from. Would he be texting from his Harley?
I think you could have counted on some very pointed comments from Al. He was a true NY'er.
Al might have had an account and be calling us out.
Great post. Thank you for this.
