St John's playing better the last 10 days. Creighton blew an 18 point lead, the Redmen tied the game at 60, but McDermott hit a 3 pointer with 2.5 seconds left to put the Jays up by 3 to stay.
The Redmen had won 3 in a row.
Wish we had a McDermott

I think they played Creighton the right way. You do not double up on McDermott. Otherwise the rest of the team kills you on threes, when you double up on McDermott.

Yeah, and the Bucks wish they had Durant.

I see what you did there with "a McDermott". Subliminal wish?

He focused a lot this summer on the types of shots Dirk takes, fade away jumpers, one stop moves. Sophomore year was the first time you really saw a baseline fade jumper, but only a couple times. Now he has at least a couple of those shots every game and he shoots his average on them (50%). I think a lot of things he does is comparable to Dirk but he is undersized to do EVERYTHING Dirk is capable of doing. The skill set is there though. I think he better tranlates to Matt Harpring or Wally Szerbiak (I'm sure thats not how you actually spell his last name). It will be interesting to see how is game can develop more and the next level. Personally I want to see him drop a little lower in the draft and get on a better team. He could be a lethal option of the bench.

Kind of like the "Jordan Rules" that Chuck Daly used with the Pistons to beat the Bulls for many years.

This is exactly what Duke did to us last year.
The charge call on St. Johns late in regulation was a typical BS call that college officials make wrongly all of the time. The Creighton defender jumped in front of him.

Not sure about that. They had been driving in with their shoulder and elbow all game long, especially Harrison. Most certainly did not jump in front of him when he was the guy guarding him the entire possession. Pretty easy call to make really.

LOL. Then you are just as bad as most college refs...or biased. The defender stepped right into him and flopped big time and the ref rewarded it. And I'm not commenting on it because I had a rooting interest by any means. I'm just tired of college refs that can never get that call right.

Meh. St. John's has beaten Seton Hall, Butler, and an out of conference game against Dartmouth. They are 2-5 in the Big East.
Not saying we're playing any better or we'd beat them, but big deal.

He is a joy to watch, no question. The fans here and throughout the country that say Creighton is going to fall off the earth after this year I'm not buying either. Sure, a step down perhaps, but there is talent throughout that team and they know how to play as a team. They are as one which is fun to watch.

I'm merely saying they are playing better than they were. They were 0-6 or something, put a few wins together and had Creighton tied at their building with under 10 seconds to play.

Those 5-6 inches make Dirk who he is.

I don't disagree but I would just love to see someone compare one basketball player to another basketball player of a different race. White players always get compared to white players and black players always get compared to black players. Its kinda funny

Yeah if you talk to anyone in our fanbase we aren't going to deny it and say we won't take a step back but at the same time the step back won't be as hard as people think out at places like Holy Land of hoops. We have a big guy freshman from SD that has been getting some great exposure in games lately and has shown some really good prospects. He probably wouldn't see a single minute with Buzz (sorry had to make the joke) but the experience he has gotten is huge. We have two big recruits coming and then look at the guys we have on the team now. None of them came in highly rated and we are competing night in and night out. Sometimes its more about the system than the individual talent and Mac has done a helluva job finding gots that fit our mold and can succeed. Its going to be a little rough for a couple years why we still get our feet wet in the higher echelons of recruitment but trust our coach can find the right character and talent guys.

Fair enough, I would say maybe Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and if you look hard Michael Jordan. I'm not sure what Doug's preferences on champagne are, however, so I won't throw Larry Sanders into the mix.
Matt Harpring or Wally Ball are the two best comparisons I think though.
I think Doug plays like David West with more range.

Jim Jackson interviewed McDermott and they were almost seeing eye-to-eye. Maybe McDermott was an inch taller. Jackson was listed at 6-6.

Korver is that prototypical 3 and D player teams look for now. A great shooter and his defense is hustle and effort. Not a lock down defender by any means. The Creighton white guy comparison works well too, but Doug is a flat-out scorer and jack of all trades on offense.
I read an article a while back comparing Doug to Glen Rice which seems pretty fair based on his performance in college so far. Other comparisons maybe Paul Millsap or Gordon Hayward? Doug's a unique player. He forces some bad shots from time to time, but he just has a knack for getting in the right spot and finishing.

I know a couple mentioned on here possible non-white comparisons (not that race matters but its too easy to just try and compare him to white guys) and one that has been brought up on our board and I think is a pretty good one is Paul Pierce. Pierce is a little quicker but it makes sense. Glen Rice is a pretty good comparison also.
Although the two both went to Creighton, your analysis of the differences between Korver and Doug are pretty accurate.
Wasn't McDermott a walk-on?
He is a walk-on. He's a shorter version of Dirk.

No, he is
now a walk-on. He came in with a scholarship, but he worked hard on his game, kept his nose clean, and always hustled and finally in his fourth year earned a coveted walk-on spot.
Maybe Coach McDermott will adopt him, aina?
