Len Kasper, MU grad, is the play-by-play announcer for the Cubs.
Bob Quinn, MU grad, was a GM with the Yankees, Reds (WS Champs), and Giants (beginning of Bonds's career with SF). I always wished Marquette would start a baseball (and softball for title 9) team.
Not sure what the costs would be, but I assume they are a great deal less than football.
Hockey before baseball. Once football gets banned in 2070, hockey and soccer will come to the forefront in American sport.

Softball was looked at, baseball was never to my knowledge. Softball made some sense because of DePaul, UW, UWGB and others had programs (if memory serves). The footprint is also so much smaller in terms of the field. Cost isn't cheap, but honestly I thought it was going to be the next program started. When LAX was added instead, I was a little surprised though I had been out of that part of the loop for a while.
Baseball has all sorts of problems from geography, to TitleIX, to lack of participation in the state. UW-milwaukee was the only DI program at the time as UW-madison dropped their program. Wisconsin wasn't considered a very good high school baseball state and talent in general in the Midwest largely considered to be average at the time, so it was a non starter. Too costly, little chance of success, TitleIX obstacles.

Hockey is next on the radar by those that know what is best for us.
In 2070, I expect it will be the pushup team wearing pillows top and bottom that lead the next generation to success with eunichs as cheerleaders, competition standings completely outlawed. Scholarships for all, all-american status for all who participate.

Lots of things were said even 5, 10, 15 years ago that sounded absurd and are happening today right out in the open. I'm sure those people would have been dubbed as sarcastic when they said it.
