Title: Jarvis Garrett
Post by: Lennys Tap on January 25, 2014, 08:17:08 PM
A Duke insider (Slater) from 247 sports predicts Jarvis Garrett, 5'11" (2014) PG from Notre Dame Prep (he's originally from Milwaukee) to Marquette. 3*, best available PG left in 2014 according to reports. Anyone have any info? If correct, somebody won't be back.

Considering Dawson and Duane Wilson will be transferring, it's probably a good idea to recruit another point guard.

A point guard who can shoot and beat his man off the dribble would be better than what we have seen from Derrick (who can't do A at all and can only do B a little) and John (who can do A but not B). 5'11" isn't ideal, but so what?

247 calls anyone & everyone an insider.  Their prediction thing is a little computer entertainment game.

That said, Garrett has done well this year (5th yr of HS) & MU has been watching. They've seen him plenty in the past as well - he balled with MBDeonte Burton.

Jay Bee - in the tape I saw of him he looked very quick and went to his left and right equally well. Looked to have a nice stroke from the outside too. Could he walk in next year and take over the point?

ABR

Duane and Dawson are the most likely transfer candidates in my eyes. Might as well have our eyes on one in case we need a replacement in a hurry.

Don't think we will actually pull the trigger on an offer

History tells us there will be at least one transfer. Right now, we have three freshman guards. One is pissed that he's redshirting, one doesn't play, and one is getting his minutes dicked around with. Not hard to see why they're recruiting this kid.

5'11" doesn't bother me at all.  Many great point guards at MU have been that size as well as other PGs around the country.

I do wonder who isn't coming back.

CUE up the 40% of kids transfer articles in another few months.

Duane transferring? Umm... people think he'd be cool with sitting out another season AND losing a year of competition eligibility? Stage is set for him at MU.

He could come in and take over the point, but then Marquette wouldn't be very good :)

Yes, he can certainly move well with the ball... wasn't a fan of his outside shooting in the past, but have *heard* it's been better... I don't mean this in the wrong way, but I think a MM might be a better spot for him.
