OK, now what? My perception is that if we continue with the same rotations we have been seeing, we will be about .500 and even the NIT is a reach.
My feeling is that JJJ, JD, Bane, and STJr need to be developed - let them have the minutes and plan for the long term. Chris, Jamil, and Ox can finish out their careers, DWil, as much as I like the kid, should be in a backup role. Juan appears to have regressed, and Jake should be reserved for only 3-pt prayers (assuming he'd be willing to try a shot). I'm not saying that developing the four above would lead to a better record this year, but this year seems to be a dud. 77 is already predicting two transfers from those four, and others have indicated that Duane might have a roving eye. I don't know how much of that is founded on any reasonable basis or how much is pure crap, but given what we've seen thus far, it seems like it's time to play for the future.
Is the bandwagon slowing down...so it's safe to jump off?
;)

F*** him for not taking shots he didn't have to take, right?
If 3 of the current freshmen transfer after this season, i'll take a 3 month vacation from the board.
Playing the freshmen the rest of way can't hurt, especially if it means no one jumps ship. It's not like them playing is going to hamper the NBA plans of Jake, Derrick and Chris.

Talented Freshmen are sitting on the bench behind quintessential Upper Class Bench Warmers....
so If someone or more jumped ship... I wouldnt be overly shocked...
but they are hard working quintessential Upper Class Bench Warmers

Made me chuckle, ecompt. There was some speculation that Jamil had NBA interest. I wonder where that's gone.
We just took a legit top 10 team to OT but couldn't quite close it out.
Yep, let's just give up.
Great fucking idea.
cool - add a notch to the "No Bad Losses Banner" and celebrate with ice cream after the game...

Wouldn't that be a major NCAA violation? I thought schools weren't allowed to "tamper" with committed players? I'm thinking rules don't exist on message boards.

So if the season is over, we should bench all the guys - Davante, Jamil, Chris and Jake - who won't be here when we play the next game that matters (November). How many games do we win with a starting lineup of Dawson, Todd, JJJ, Bane and Steve Jr with Juan and Derrick off the bench. Zero is my guess, but since we're throwing in the towel, let's give those guys 38 minutes a game. Then nobody will transfer and we'll win the national championship next year. Oh, let's make Duane the captain in waiting and promise him 38 minutes next year while we're at it - want to make sure he doesn't leave.
or we should just keep what we are doing, maybe finish .500, pray for the NIT, not season players for next year and risk significant roster turnover yet again...
hello - we're 11-9 - the current path is not working...

Nova is not a legit top 10 team.

We had to beat Nova in this game to preserve any chance for the Dance. We lost, so that pipe dream is now over. Might as well shoot for .500 in Conference and shower Buzz with Hosannas.

I don't think anyones believes we should give up. That said, a loss is a loss. No moral victories in the W-L column. The team will probably struggle to finish .500 in conference.
Villanova is a legitimate top 10 team.

You started the post the right way......ITS ALL ABOUT THE FUTURE, PLAY THE FUTURE (JAE VOICE)
OK, stupid question....
But the quintessential upper-class benchwarmers who are starting are presumably (even if we use a generous definition of benchwarmer), Thomas (Senior), Gardner (Senior), Otule (Senior), and Jamil Wilson (Senior).
So next year, the only players getting regular minutes who will be upperclassmen will be Todd Mayo (Senior), Juan Anderson (Senior), and Derrick Wilson (Senior). Even if you assume that Steve Taylor Jr. will start as a Junior, that still leaves one starting spot open for an underclassman, and all the major reserve roles.
In other words...
If I'm a talented freshman, why the hell would I give up a year of eligibility to transfer to another school, when Marquette has gobs of minutes available for a youth movement eight months from Senior Day 2014?
Semi meltdown going on here on the boardn. Sure there were flaws in this OT loss. Wish things were better. But im going to reformulate my hope. We can still afford 2 losses. Games lost in conference were not ugly. Away at X, CR. OT at Butler and Nova OT. Its not a stretch to think we could go 9-2. Sure unlikely.
Having said that I do have criticism. Jake was useless all day. Buzz has got to see that.
Frosh aren't leaving until they say they are. The only rats abandoning ship are on this thread.

makes sense... but we live in the computer/internet social media days.. this isnt the 70's you think these kids see read and hear everything... i wouldnt be suprised if they have mu scoop accounts... and alotta the time are swayed by the public.. is it right or wrong.. i cant say.. but if you think they dont know.. youd be kidding yourself...
JJJ/Burton/STJ aren't going anywhere. Starters' minutes are theirs to lose next season. Why sit a season when you will play big minutes in the next?
Duane/Dawson make a little more sense. Unless Derrick up and leaves, one of them will play while the other one watches. I wouldn't blame them for leaving. Best of luck!
As for the rest of the season? Press on! We can lose two more games before an at large bid is impossible. Warriors don't give up until the bitter end.
RING OUT AHOYA!!!

C'mon - you're gonna use the common sense argument here?
Give Buzz a little more credit. If the roster contains a healthy, talented point guard next season, freshman or otherwise, Derrick becomes a reserve. Which is where he belongs.

Buzz proved against GTown that he is willing to play Derrick only 12 minutes if there is a competent PG on the floor.
Then again, Buzz barely gave Dawson a chance just a few days later, which still has me scratchin' my head.
I totally agree with the poster who says there will be plenty of minutes for this season's freshmen in 2014-15 ... unless they prove to be not as good as next season's freshmen!

No he wouldn't have become a reserve. Buzz loves him blindly.

Dawson didn't play to Buzz's obvious gameplan early, which gave him the hook.
Also, I really do think zone vs. man D had something to do with it.

Dawsons first appearance in the game lasted 5 possesions. The only one we didn't score on was when Dawson himself missed that point blank runner.
So close to perfect offense and he didn't meet the game plan?
Ill ask it agan, was the game plan not to score?
