Anyone know if their are any bars that are near Hinkle Fieldhouse? It seems like most are in some area called Broad Ripple but that seems somewhat far away. Anything closer?
Broad ripple is brilliant... if you are in your 20s/early 30s and single. I compare it to Water street, although it's been 3 years since I really went on a road trip to Indy
Butler is in the middle of a neighborhood. Not much immediately surrounding it. Moe & Johnnys (54th and College) is probably the closest bar. Not sure how crowded it is on game day considering it is the closest bar. Broad Ripple will have the most to offer...we are hitting Kilroys before.

Well, so was Marquette, back in the day. Lenny's was your typical neighborhood tavern.
So what will the official MUScoop bar be? MrsTitan34 and myself will be there!
Milwaukee near MU in the late '70's - early '80's was nothing to write home about. I'll never forget my mother's face the first time she surveyed the area around our house on 15th between Kilbourn and State.

You could easily attend a bar either in broadripple or downtown. I'd highly suggest grabbing a Lyft or an uberX from either locale to Hinkle. From broadripple it would probably cost $7-10. From downtown $12-15. Either Lyft or uberX is much cheaper than taxis in Indy.
On College Ave: Moe and Johnnies is a decent hang out. I've heard things about 20 Tap across the street from there, but that's new since I moved out of Indy. My old fav was The Red Key... it was the classiest place in Indiana, but I'm guessing it's closed down by now... the couple that owned it had to be pushing 90 a few years back.
On Broad Ripple Ave: OPT has a great beer selection. The rest of the places are pretty much indistinguishable.
Just north of BR Ave is Plump's Last Shot. After a game at Hinkle, it's worth stopping in... if you're a fan of basketball, you won't be disappointed.
Moe and Johnny's is good, but is a Butler bar, so may not be the best place for Marquette fans.
Twenty Tap (across the street from Moe and Johnny's) is great for craft beer and good food (20 craft beers on tap).
Plenty of bars in Broad Ripple, just a 5 minute drive from Hinkle.
Also, parking will likely be an issue so try to arrive early to the game.
So the answer is nothing
The Red Key and The Aristocrat (my wife and I call it Aristocats, but that's another story - it's our "go to" place for everything in Indy) are the closest, but you're still about a mile from Hinkle. Aristocats is a restaurant but they do have a bar separate from the dining area... if you want a good Bloody Caesar, that's a good place to stop. You'll likely see the Benny B family there because we are cool cats.
There is an official alumni pre-party:

I don't think it's particularly close to Hinckle, but there is a shuttle to the game from there.

Alumni event is about 20 mins from Hinkle. Maybe more riding in a bus.
Chammps is kind of a distance from Hinkle unfortunately. Another great option is Chumley's in Broad Ripple. They advertise 50 beers on tap. Plus Saturdays are great there, discounts on all Indiana brews.
Twenty Tap was mentioned too, down by Moe and Johnnys. I like that place a lot, however it is kind of small on the inside. Maybe because its always crowded after work...
Broad ripple is full of bars but is farther away
Twenty tap is less than a mile from Hinkle, good food n dozens of craft beers on tap.

We're heading to Broad Ripple, to 3 Wise Men Brewing Co.

I'm not 50 (not even 30) and I'm going to the event. A group of us went to the Alumni event in Providence 2 years ago and it was a good time. The Alumni group does a good job with the events.
Plus, our hotel is less than a mile away from the bar, so it's easy transport to and from the game.

Similar to Porcini's then, a'ina?
Sun King is a good local brewery, I'd suggest anyone hitting the bars before the game to give them a try.
I think Sun King owns the 3 Wise Men.
Edit: For those that don't know or haven't seen HOOSIERS (the movie), Plump's Last Shot is actually named after the the real Jimmy Chitwood.

99% sure they are different entities. There is a chain of bars in central Indiana called Scotty's Brewhouse. They created 3 Wise Men

You are correct, Scotty's does own 3 Wise Men.

You might even see Bobby at the game on Saturday.

No, we are all meeting up at a great bar before the game. We just don't want to tell you.

Kenosha doesn't drink anyway. He just wants to hang out and talk some smack with his fellow educators.

The only fellow teachers I drink with are ones that do not work at my school.
