On a serious note - I think there are some really good individual players on this team. Why is the team not better than the record shows?

Our supposedly most talented player since Wade has trouble putting together two consecutive good games. Three of the good individual players are freshmen; two screw up often, especially on D, and the other is hurt. And we fill the most important position in basketball with a guy who couldn't score in a roomful of Kardashians.
Those are 3 reasons. There are more.

Inconsistency.

I think we have an interesting mix of very good talent that doesn't mesh well. As much as I hate to admit it, I also think that this team might do better with the Tom Crean 1,000,000 play playbook, since our guards are not creative playmakers, and that is not Buzz's forte.
Because we have so many guys who are relatively equal when ability and experience are combined, finding the best rotation is difficult, with so many possible permutations. I hold out some hope, though. There is always a chance that all of this talent will sort itself out into a cohesive rotation. That chance gets smaller with each passing game, however.

Why does Davante get to play no defense but JJJ or Burton get taken out as soon as they make one mistake and then do not get on the floor for extended minutes?

Something about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks.

Agree that the chances are diminishing. We still have no identity and look like a 'November' team here in January.

Mereology? Man, I never thought that I would ever use that word. And on a basketball forum, no less.
If we are lesser than the sum of the parts, how is it possible to even know this?
one - check preseason expectations (picked to win the BE) vs current record
two - most seasoned front court in a long time (one potential NBA pick, one 2nd team AA preseason pick, one six year senior) and with what results?
three - do you think this team has underachieved? do you think the amount of talent on this team should have a better record at this point?

maybe that was why buzz had the laminated NFL offensive coordinator card yesterday.
Maybe the bench can start using flags and hand signals to send in plays.

Well, at a minimum it looks like we are running plays to get Thomas some open looks. That's a good start, and it has the side effect of getting better looks for Gardner. So we're taking steps in the right direction.

All of this is code for "The coach sucks."
So yes, let's fire Buzz and bring in somebody who can get us past the first weekend of the NCAA tournament.
Never said the coach sucks... nor do I want a different coach.
Can the slurpers understand that Buzz may not be having a good year.
Can you point out underachievement with out being accused of saying the coach should be fired?
ESPN sure thinks so

How often does the prediction of a certain team to win a conference end up being correct? Rarely.
Expectations were set too high for this team the day after Vander left.

That is interesting. A lot of haters of Crean around here but his over the top, over coached game style on offense could help this offense. I prefer Buzz's offense most seasons but this year Crean's may have been better.
P.s. this message sent to you from Cape Coast, Ghana

Does that include the Jenner broads too?
Someone else suggested that Buzz may be over restrictive with paint-touches and red light/green light, and this team may be better off just letting them play. I kind of agreed with that when I saw it, and I think that would definitely help the freshman be more productive. The Crean mega-playbook is the opposite end of the spectrum, and I can see some merit in both sides at this point. I think everyone just wants to see something change.

OK.
