Title: DePaul SOTG
Post by: tower912 on January 04, 2014, 03:03:18 PM
Davante.   Depaul didn't double team, Davante was engaged, played adequate defense, and took advantage of the Demon's big men.   Nice game, big fella.     Keep it up.   MU needs you.

great game by Ox after a frustrating night in Omaha and being called out by Buzz in the paper.   No question SOG today.

Lock the thread now.  No need to vote.

But I also thought Todd provided some very focused play.

Davante. But Jake Thomas 2 consecutive 3's did change the momentum of the game.

35 minutes and 10-11 free throws too.  Keep pushing his buttons.

Couldn't watch the game. Judging by the box score it was Davante and it wasn't close.

Maybe Ox saw what Buzz said about him not working hard enough and came into practice the past few days working harder than he ever has before, which is why he started. Hopefully Ox will keep starting and playing as good as he did today.

Agree that Todd was the spark in the first half. But for the whole game, not so much.

Buzz said in the post game that he didn't, but he (gasp) did it anyway to try to kick start Gardner and to try to get Jamil in the flow by beginning at the point.

No contest..... But Todd came in and started the offense. When we ran some plays for JT it opened things up for DG and he came through. Liked watching make some free throws as we'll.

Devante.  I also think anyone at the BC who stood for six minutes before MU made a field goal deserves a special service award.

Had to miss the start, when we got down 16-7 - doubt that anything happened in that time to have it be anybody but Ox.

Derrick Wilson:  His +/- was +16, the highest on the team...where would we have ended up in this game without him?

Uh...it was DePaul dude.  And tell me how 33% from the line, 0-1 from the field, 2 turnovers, no steals, and 3 assists in 31 minutes is "winning" PG play??

Because he played the majority of the PG minutes... and we won. I could care less how DWilsons statline looks game to game, as long as he plays well enough to help us win the game im satisfied.

The +- stat is about useless, even though people keep track of it. It fails to recognize runs, and player combinations/rotations which impact the game. If you ever study Miami Heat stats they frequently show Wade in the negative because of player rotations with LeBron etc. If you went solely by that stat, Wade should be riding the pines.
Derrick Wilson is what he is: a good backup PG. His shooting/FT shooting and below average creatability are more important for a PG. Having said that, he does not make many TO's which is a good thing, but IMO that goes hand in hand with the low creation level.

DG, but give props to TM-
played with energy when the team was completely on their heels
(5 missed layups and 5 or 6 TO's before a basket?)

he was a needed spark, and things were able to right themselves somewhat and prevent a complete meltdown...
seeing the players faces from section 101, it was disconcerting.

awful starts to both halves, but an impressive and strong final 10 or so.

hopefully this is a kickstarted moving forward.

Guess we just disagree, because I do care about how his stat line looks, and if he "helped" us win what was a closely contested game against DePaul...with that stat line??  Yikes.

Obviously, we won this game because of Davante and Mayo - and in spite of Derrick.  Go find another box score from a high major game yesterday where a starting PG gets 30 minutes and "produces" what we got from Derrick.

I don't doubt he's doing his best, I just don't see how this team is going to achieve any kind of real success with him running the point 30+ minutes.  I was hopeful we could still be a potential threat come March, but just don't see it happening if we continue with Derrick getting 30+ minutes and producing what he has thus far.
