Poll
Question: Duane Wilson's redshirting impacts Marquette in the following way for NCAA bid
Option 1: Warriors no longer make the NCAA tournament
Option 2: Warriors still make NCAA tournament
Title: With Duane Wilson redshirting, have your expectations changed

Kind of surprised no one had this poll.  I'll throw it out there to get my post count up...

I am hoping everything starting coming together in late February and we win the BET for a bid.

With him coming in so late, I really didn't think he would have much of an impact

I think Buzz told him he was too far behind to get meaningful minutes too.  Derek is his guy right now and we have three shooting guards ahead of Duane.  I don't have very good expectations for the season anyway, but nothing has changed.  Just my interest level the slightest bit since I was really looking forward to seeing him play.  Really got my hopes up a few weeks ago when I thought he would be in.

Very unfortunate news about Duane Wilson.  Although it's tough, I truly feel its the best decision for him, the team and the school.

Regardless of the talent-level on this year's team, I always have the expectation that Marquette can win ANY game against any opponent.  Say Marquette struggles mightily in Big East play; I would still go into the Big East tournament with that hope and expectation that they could run the table and win the Big East Tournament.  If this year's team fails to make the NCAA Tournament (first time since 2005), then I would root for them to win the NIT, or the CBI, or whatever other post-season tournaments are now offered.

There is still a lot of basketball left, and anything can happen.

With or without him I think they find a way to sneak in NCAA. Won't be pretty but think the fella's find a way. Actually I do think Wilson would have been a major factor this year and wish we had him.

i'll be very surprised if this team doesn't somehow make the tournament.  Bad seed is likely, but they'll be good enough to make it.  And losing Duane has zero impact.

Yeah, but you don't know what Buzz told the guy. And if Buzz told the kid he was too far behind to get meaningful minutes, that is more Buzzspeak. Look at our Guard corps, especially at top with Wilson and Thomas. If Derrick Wilson is Buzz,s guy, I sure hope he gives Buzz a great ride.

I had already accepted that he wasn't going to play this year.    Having it made official does not change my expectations.

When we finished with Wisconsin and Duane wasn't available for the IUPUI game, I pretty much figured he wasn't going to play this season. I mean, if you're not going to play him against a series of cupcakes with plenty of off days in between to get him ready for the Big East, you're not gonna play him at all.

So, from that IUPUI moment on, I had zero expectations for Duane. Therefore, my expectations haven't changed one iota for the team since then, either.

The team's poor play against quality opponents has changed my expectations more than whether Duane will play this season. I cannot see us going better than 10-8 in BE play.

I still picture us doing poorly in conference play (10-8 or 9-9) but winning the BET.

Could happen, but not with the starting backcourt we have now.

Didn't think they'd make the tourney with him missing so much time, and my mind hasn't changed.

Hard to believe we go .500 in conference and win BE tourney. Wishfully thinking I'm afraid. I think a good start to conference play would be huge and give the team an emotional lift.

Finish third or better in the Big East and all is forgiven.
Finish fourth and you're sweating bullets on March 16th.
Finish fifth, and don't even bother.

Yeah, the last time anything like that "plan" worked for MU Mike Deane was our coach. Agree that it's a longshot.

I see us doing a lot better than 9-9 or 10-8 in conference play.  I think this team improves a lot each game and is fairly solid at the end of the season.

With that said, even if we ended up around .500 in conference play, the degree of improvement over the season would give us a good shot at winning the BET.

Maybe, maybe not. 12-6 could be 5th. With a win or two in the big east tourney, that team is in and probably not in Dayton. I do think 12 wins is probably necessary to not be in dayton. The field of 68 has to filled - the big east will get 5 teams in.

Is Steve Taylor also being redshirted? He did not play on Saturday. I thought he would be one of our leaders this year.

Don't think so.  If he is, then I have no idea why Buzz would have put him in against New Mexico.

Should have a 3rd option of Marquette still misses the tournament even if he had come back.

You know this because the Georgetown sight included the possibility in their poll when Whittingham was finally kicked off the team for good, right?
