Title: How many Big East wins needed?
Post by: LAZER on December 21, 2013, 10:13:15 PM
I think anything less than 12 will put MU in a bad spot on selection Sunday

12-13.

At least 13-14, given the lack of quality wins in the non conference schedule.

3-4, in as many days.  We'd avoid the play in game that way as well.

Probably 12, and 5 of those will have to be on the road. Maybe a game or two in NYC.

Need to win the tourney or 12+ wins.

Do we get another ribbon to hang on the No Bad Losses / No Good Wins Banner?

To be safe, 13 between regular season and BET.

I'm not sure if 11-7 and two in the BET will do it.  I'd be shitting my pants on selection Sunday with 12 losses and being in the NBE.

I don't think its going to matter, because i don't think MU will finish in the top 4 in the Big East, and I think only 4 BE teams get in this season.

This team is a mess right now, working from the coaching staff on down.

Where will they win on the road in the Big East? Maybe DePaul, Providence and St. John's? Don't see much opportunity after those 3. Who will they upset at home? Anybody?

Yes, they will likely upset all of us--more than a few times, unfortunately.

Already bet a number of folks MU will be .500 in the NBE.  Which also means NIT.  Sorry, Buzz riding the wrong lineups at the wrong times this year.   Unfortunately next year looks to suck too.

Sounds like you feel confident. I'm happy to put down 100 that says MU will be better than .500 in the Big East. You in?

Whatever record it takes to get in the top four of the conference (No way the top four teams from the fourth best conference don't make the tourney). And no 1st round exit from the BET.

Upsetting Villanova would give us some wiggle room.

Assuming we win our next game, 12-6 would make us 20-11 going into the BET.  Going 2-1 in the BET would make us 22-12 and squarely on the bubble.  I say we need 15 including the Big East tournament to be safely in.

How dare you say the team is a mess and blaspheme Buzz. In Buzz we slurp. Wait. you are right--it is the team's fault--accolades to da coach.

Meh.  22-12 is not squarely on the bubble.  Probably an 8-10 seed, but safely in.  The field has to be filled, guys.  MU has put their back against a wall, but they're certainly not dead yet.

It's impossible to know without knowing the records and opponents of other bubble teams.

It is difficult to know what the bare minimum is, I will grant you that.  However we go 13-5 with one big road victory, and win a game or two in the BET then we are in.

But, yes, if we go 11-7 or 12-6 without a big run in the BET it would be hard to tell right now.  Either way, I think we go 11-7 and we will be sweating come Selection Sunday.

It's not apples to apples, but just for comparison...

Last season, the final 16 at-large berths by the numbers.

Average RPI: 39.9
Average Wins: 22.6
Average Losses: 9.7
Best RPI: Wichita State 18 (9 seed)
Worst RPI: Villanova 54 (9 seed)
Best Record: Middle Tennessee 28-5 (RPI:33, 11 seed)
Worst Record: Minnesota 20-12 (RPI: 30, 11 seed)

15 and 14 is obviously safe.

13 is strong with a Semi-Final in NYC.

12 is sweaty without a Final in NYC.

11 is ripe for a Western Michigan redux.
