Funny story i went to the first home game and his family was a row behind me. They were thinking he should have started from day 1. Now i see why lol
As soon as he starts playing defense, maybe. Gives one back for every one he scores.
Any team that has BANE as a starter will go places.
"Let the games begin!"

Yep. Might be the worst defensive player on the team right now.

Everybody's family thinks their kid should be starting, playing every minute and getting 20 shots per game.

Yea you right. Lol
JJJ barely sees the floor he wasnt he a top 50 player coming out.
Is there a reason for this??!!
I mean i know JJJ Burton or J. Dawson parents arent coaches but look what cullen neal did tonite with an opportunity.
Did he make mistakes? Yes...
But he was out there. Gotta roll the dice sometimes.
Cullen Neal was averaging 6 pts over 19 mins per game before tonight. In each of his previous two games, he was 1-for-7 from the floor. We worked hard at making him look real good tonight.

There are 2 sides to a basketball court. That's the reason.

That was on Buzz. Doubling the post led to most of his open looks. And it was totally unnecessary.

Agreed, and started another thread to discuss this.
Spoke with some UNM alum prior to the game. To a man they said MU will wi . Talked about their team's reluctance to shoot. MU's D or lack there of made them look awfully confident. This team is below average. PS I was at the game, not watching it on TV.

New Mexico also has a really short bench...coach really has no choice but to play Neal. Buzz has proven that his system works, repeatedly.

"Dammit. We're short. Well, I guess I'll play my own son. Cullen, get in there and don't make me look bad!"
One thing keeps Burton from starting, and that's Deonte Burton. On defense, he's woeful. Misses switches, doesn't keep up, doesn't have the lateral movement yet to stay with his man. That will all come, but until he figures it out, he'll continue to be painful to watch on the back end.
On the other end, he often has poor shot selection. Sometimes it's like Gardner, where he gets the ball, throws it up, and you have no idea how it made it through the hoop, but other times it's simply taking bad shots. He has the third highest usage on the team behind Jamil and Gardner, but is eighth in terms of offensive efficiency. He's a black hole when it comes to the ball. He gets it and he knows he's shooting it, the team knows he's shooting it, the bench knows he's shooting it, and the defense knows he's shooting it. He's good enough that sometimes he can get away with that, but other times, he's just throwing up an ill-advised shot when we have no one in position for an offensive rebound.
When Deonte learns to play team ball on both ends, he'll probably start. But right now he's playing his own version of make it, take it, where he makes a basket and then lets the other team take an open shot on the other end. Unfortunately, when he's in he's also playing miss it, take it almost as often.
