Title: Davante and Deonte
Post by: MU82 on December 18, 2013, 08:57:41 AM
I've noticed an interesting (to me) situation when the two are on the floor together.

We know where Gardner likes to operate. Well, Burton likes the low post, too, and he's most proficient when based down there.

These past few games, they occasionally have gotten into each other's space, clogging the area for both of them. Last night in the second half, it seemed Davante actually deferred to Deonte a couple of times.

Long, long term, I love that we have a player like Deonte who can work down there. You don't have to be a center to be a low-post beast. LeBron might be the best post player in the NBA, and Jordan was the Bulls' best post player for a decade. Guys like Cornbread Maxwell, Adrian Dantley, etc., could dominate down there despite their size.

But short term, I'll be curious to see how this plays out. There are ways to use a double-low-post, and I'm guessing we've only begun to see how Buzz works this.

I like Davante catching near the block. I want Deonte in the wide post. Draw his man away from the basket, and use his quickness advantage.
