1. Everyone looks good against a cupcake. So, it is difficult to get a true read, however.....
2. Juan finally looks like the player we were waiting for.
3. Deonte is so aggressive that he makes silly turnovers.
4. Derrick hit his 3 pt'er for the year! Good to see him so aggressive to the rim.
5. Todd took a couple of shots to his noggin. Blood dripping down the side of his face, pads stuffed up his nose. MU is still going to need him going forward.
6. Ball movement is fun.
7. So are steals.
8. Saw some rotations and double teams out of the frosh that left wide open 3 pt shooters. Still need to tighten those.
9. This team will need Steve Taylor before the end of the year. Get him healthy.
10. Dumb fouls against Ball St? C'mon, Jamil.

Sorry I missed it somehow. What is going on with Taylor. He looked good as a Frosh. I know he had offseason surgery but I thought that was behind him?

From what I've heard, he still isn't fully healed.
He had knee surgery in June and his leg is getting worse. They should red-shirt him if he is still eligible to red-shirt.
Steve's played eight games, which is over 25 percent of the schedule. Doubt if the NCAA would grant him a redshirt.

Had this discussion on another forum. The NCAA requires less than 30% of games played in. The 2 Division-I scrimmages count as games, as does the conference tournament (for one game). That brings Marquette's total to 34 games. Taylor has played in 8 games + the 2 scrimmages. 10/34 is 29.41%. Taylor should still be (barely) eligible for a redshirt provided he doesn't play another second this season. That may be why Isaac Chew ran over to Buzz when Taylor was up and ready to come into the game against IUPUI.

Are you sure the scrimmages count?
This article suggests exhibition games don't count, but I don't know how accurate it is. http://healthyliving.azcentral.com/medical-redshirt-rules-basketball-4185.html
O'tule got a 6th year, and if I remember this was about the time right now that he got injured.. If Taylor and Duane red-shirt, then if they are lucky to get Diamond Stone in 2 years, you might have a pretty good line-up in Stone's freshman year in 2015. Stone, Taylor, Burton, DWilson and JJJ or Med Hill. That looks on paper to be a solid team for the future.

I doubt it will happen, but if that lineup did, that would be a scary good team

As predicted, we beat a couple of bad teams on our home floor and all is right with the world. Hope so, but I would like to see some quality wins.

I'm not sure exhibition games count, but I trust the person that told me the D-1 scrimmages do (as does the conference tourney for 1 game).
Regardless, the NCAA number is definitely 30%, and under any measure, Steve's 8 games are less than 30% of Marquette's quantity of regular season games.
The difference between Duane and Steve's situation is the knowing. We know that Taylor will be able to contribute if he is 100% healthy. With Duane we just assume. I would rather redshirt Duane than Taylor. However, we do need more help at guard...wait, which side am I on with this?
I am on the side of the kids. Make the best choices for you.
BTW, it is being reported that Todd had his nose broken during last night's game.

The situation with the knee is strange. It was reported as a growth that had been there for some time, not a tear or injury. Just seems weird something like that would be ongoing, and possibly even worsening. Hopefully just a temporary issue, because I don't think there's any doubt he has great potential and he seems to be a good kid. Has to be frustrating for him.

36+ point wins are better than the close wins against New Hampshire and Southern in November.
