Pretty cool. Too bad they are doing this during a dull game with no students...

I agree. Marquette should do this before a packed house. Butch Lee is perhaps the single most important player in Marquette history given his role in bringing home Marquette's only national championship. I will never forget how he single-handedly came with an RCH of beating the US in the Montreal Olympics after being snubbed by Dean Smith. Only a questionable charge call at the end prevented Puerto Rico from upsetting the heavily favored US. Butch had the final say with Dean in 1977.

The reason why is given in the article.
"Tickets for the game against Samford are still available..."
Well deserved honor for Butch Lee. He really was one great college player.

What's worse, a few of his team mates will be unable to attend due to holiday travel..., I know Earl will be in New York with family. They were roomies and I know Earl would have liked to be here.
Augie,
Unfortunately others can't make it for reasons not in their control.
I wonder if Gail Pudvan will be in attendance?
I notice that they word it that he will be "presented with the NCAAs award." I wonder if they didn't have much say in the matter. Or I wonder if Lee himself wanted that date.
So hot, want to touch the heine.
